Boston, MA --Milan Lucic spoke yesterday about this year’s exhibition schedule, which starts tonight when the Boston Bruins take on the Canadiens in Montreal at 7:30 ET.
The B’s will travel to Montreal following practice this morning, and continue on to Rochester, NY after tonight’s game to face the Florida Panthers tomorrow night.
"I think [playing preseason games right away] is a good thing just so you get into a groove here right away, right off the bat. Nowadays people come in to camp in shape and ready to play."
According the Lucic even the rookies are showing their NHL spirit during training camp.
"There is a new group of young guys coming through with guys like [Jordan] Caron and [Tyler] Seguin who have a pretty good chance at making this hockey club," he explained.
"I'm always here to help them," added Lucic. "Those two they seem to be getting better every practice."
Just a few years ago Milan was a "baby B" looking to learn from the experienced Bruins veterans. Now, the tables have turned, and he has become the teacher for a new set of rookies.
"Yeah it is a little strange [being considered a veteran]. It feels that way too," he said jokingly. "You know, I've been here for a while now."
With the first preseason game tonight, Lucic (who is not scheduled to play in Montreal) and the fans will get to see first hand how the rookies and veterans play together, which will help form the bond between the new players and their city, which is known for it’s enthusiastic and loyal fans.
Lucic could not think of a more perfect start for the B's than playing against their archrival Canadiens.
“It's always nice playing there [with] that rivalry," said Lucic. "Even though it is preseason there is still that rivalry there.
"Like I said every day it's getting better," continued the power foward. "Everyone feels like they're getting better and we just have to go out [tonight and tomorrow] and have a good game."
