Tim Thomas will be in goal versus the Senators.

Here is a preview of Tanks’ game notes entry:
  • Earned the 4-3 win over Philadelphia on Jan. 6.
  • Is 5-2-1 in his last eight starts, 11-5-1 in his last 17 starts.

  • Was the NHL’s Number Three Star for the week of Nov. 12-18.
  • Was the NHL’s Number One Star for the week of Dec. 18-24.

Goaltender Hannu Toivonen is up, having been called up from the Providence Bruins. He has dressed as backup for his last two games in Boston:
  • Has had four stints in Providence/AHL this season.
  • Is 3-6-0 with a 2.82 GAA in nine AHL Bruins games this year.
  • His last Boston win was a 3-2 victory over Calgary on Oct. 19.
  • Has dressed as backup for 19 games.

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara is out for undetermined period and the club will reevaluate his status when they return on Wednesday as he recovers from a middle body injury -- Big Z did not travel to Ottawa with the Bruins.

Defenseman Brad Stuart is in California (no word of a new Bruins cub’s arrival as of yet).

Rookie defenseman Jonathan Sigalet is up from Providence:
  • Is looking to play his first NHL game.
  • Recalled Jan. 8 from Providence/AHL where he had 8-8=16 totals.

Black & Gold rookie forward Phil Kessel will play versus Ottawa:
  • Recalled Jan. 7 from Providence/AHL
  • Had one goal and two PIM in two AHL Bruins games.
  • Had been assigned to Providence for conditioning purposes.
  • His last Boston point was an assist Dec. 4 in Montreal.
  • Scored the deciding shootout goal in the 4-3 win vs. Tampa on Nov. 30.
  • 2006-07 Shootout Stats: 1/1.
  • Scored his first NHL goal Oct. 21 vs. Buffalo.

Goalie Phil Sauve has been assigned to Providence.

    Moving on
In any case, a little bird told me that Bruins Head Coach Dave Lewis was concerned about his captain, but thinks that somebody might take advantage of the situation to shine.

"It puts a different responsibility on other guys," said Lewis. "You hope they can handle the responsibility in a positive way. Most guys want more responsibility. This is an opportunity for them to step up and assume that extra ice time. We’re going to have to divvy out a lot more minutes that Z gobbles up."
