Game time is almost here and before I go upstairs, I wanted to go through my recorder and see if there was anything else I could add.
It’s slim pickings, as both teams just want to hit the ice. But here are some of the better nuggets:
“You have to block it out of your mind. There’s 82 games and that was always another game. It’s gone now, and we have to move on to tonight. We’re playing a good hockey club again, and I think the same thing as we did against Buffalo [that] we have to get it into their zone and outplay their ‘D.’ We did that versus Buffalo – except the last eight minutes. So let’s play 60 tonight and get the win.”Forward, Marc Savard, on focusing on tonight’s game after the loss to Buffalo
“No, it’s going to be a different lineup. Stastny’s in. Brookbank’s out. And I’m not sure on Jason York’s status for tonight’s game. We’re going to find out. He’s at the doctor now…I’ll let you know tonight. Something happened at practice yesterday…I don’t know for sure. But there is pretty good chance he is not going to be able to go…the two Stuarts are not available and that would be it [in terms of injuries].”Head Coach, Dave Lewis, on the lineup
“I look at it this way. We got three out of the last four points against two really good opponents. So, you can break it down like that. We had the home opener against Calgary and that was a real plus game. So, we’re putting pieces together but I’d still like to establish a better presence at home…you know, we’ve gone through a lot of the peaks and valleys. And hopefully the guys respond. We’ve just got to go from there…it’ll be good read to see how we handle adversity. You get tested along the way and we’ve had a couple of these tests already [but] it’s response factor. Now, how do we respond? Overall, [the Buffalo game] was a very good game against a very good opponent. We had some breakdowns late...[and] we have to worry about our intensity [as opposed to worrying about the opponent] and we have to stick to the game plan that we’ve had. And start well and continue on.”Lewis, on the end of the home stand and moving forward
“We just didn’t do the things we’re supposed to do to win hockey games…I talked yesterday about the value of certain plays that I think we have to recognize, as a group, what those plays are, identify them as coaches, and make sure the players know what they are.”Head Coach, Dave Lewis, on the loss to Buffalo
“He’s working at it…I know Doug Houda has spent a lot of time with him and he’s doing extra things in the weight room that will help improve some of the things we want him to improve on. I guess you’ll see the benefits in the game…he’s a young player, it’s only his second year.”Lewis, on the development of Milan Jurcina and his entry into the lineup
