Krejci Keeps it Cool

Krejci Celebrates

BOSTON, MA -- The epitome of Boston's not-too-high and not-too-low attitude, David Krejci hardly broke a smile as he faced the media in the afterglow of Boston's 4-2 Game 1 victory over Montreal Thursday night in the TD Banknorth Garden.

"It’s a big one, that’s for sure, but now it’s over and we have to look forward to the next game," said Krejci. "We just have to play our game and we did that."

Prior to Game 1, when informed that the club was 38-2-5 during the regular season when he gets a point the usually deadpan Krejci said, "“I guess that means that I’ve got to get a point, right?"

And he did -- two in fact -- with an assist on Phil Kessel's first goal and another with his own goal in the second.

But after the game, Krejci was, again, all business.

"I didn’t even know about [that stat] before today’s game," he said. "I don’t think about it.

"It’s a team [game], and you know, it’s good when I score and we win.'

"We got the lead [in the series], that’s it...We just have to forget about it and get ready for the next game." - David Krejci
But that's a pretty good stat, David. Right?

"And if that’s how you guys take it, that’s all right...I just want to help the team as much as I can to win the game," he said.

The young center had clear ideas about what had and hadn't worked on Thursday night, with the second period representing the latter and the third period the former.

"We kind of slowed down or whatever, I don’t know what it was exactly, but we came back in the third and we came out strong and we got the first win," said Krejci. "We always want to play our game for a whole 60 minutes, but there were some mistakes...a couple mistakes in the second.

"Then we came back [in the third] and we play hard and we stuck with our game plan.

"That’s huge," he said.

But not huge enough to smile for very long.

"We got the lead [in the series], that’s it," said Krejci. "We just have to forget about it and get ready for the next game."

But B's head coach Claude Julien wasn't so ready to forget Krejci's, or the other young players in the B's lineup, contribution to the win.

"I thought Krejci had a solid game for us tonight," he said. "Our young guys did a great job, and that’s not to take anything away from our veterans, but if we’re going to be successful, we’re going to need everybody at some point to step up, and our young guys were pretty good for us tonight."

Especially #46.
