Kevan Miller Out with Upper-Body Injury

by Caryn Switaj / Boston Bruins

WILMINGTON — Defenseman Kevan Miller was absent from Wednesday’s practice at Ristuccia Arena, as the Bruins got back to work following Tuesday night’s 5-4 loss to the San Jose Sharks at TD Garden.

Miller left Tuesday’s game in the third period and did not return. His last shift ended with 10:44 left in the game.

“Right now, all I can tell you is he’s got an upper body injury,” Head Coach Claude Julien said following practice. “I don’t know the details of what’s come up with the assessment, and we’ll try and give you guys some more when we do. So right now, I don’t have more other than to tell you he’s upper body.”

Besides Miller, the rest of the group hit the ice for an hour skate.

Some line switches from the third period of Tuesday’s game stuck for practice, with Patrice Bergeron centering Brad Marchand and Jimmy Hayes.

Matt Beleskey skated on a line with Ryan Spooner and Brett Connolly.

The Bruins next host the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night at TD Garden, with two home games now remaining on their season-high five game homestand.

They’ll be looking to clean up their mistakes and hopefully start to find some consistency not only within each game, but also from game to game.

“I really feel good about the response I’m getting from players as far as believing,” said Julien. “Right now, we need to fix what we do out there — that’s the main thing.”

“Every game is a little bit different — focus, determination, a little bit of everything, but we are a 500 club. We’re not in last place.”

The Bruins have 17 points on the season, two points back of Florida, Detroit and Tampa Bay in the Atlantic Division.

“We’re still in a position here where we can improve ourselves,” said Julien. “So we can continue to be negative or we can be more determined to improve. That’s what we’re looking to do here — how determined are we to improve? And this is what we have to do here moving forward.”
