Boston, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced Saturday that the club has recalled defenseman Matt Hunwick from the Providence Bruins (AHL).
Hunwick, who was assigned to Providence on December 13, has had two stints with Boston this season and played a total of nine games for the NHL club, tallying one assist. With Providence, Hunwick has seen action in 16 AHL games, notching one goal, four assists and a plus/minus rating of +16.
During his collegiate career, the 22-year-old Sterling Heights, MI native played in 163 games for the University of Michigan from 2003-2007, notching 24 goals and 73 assists in his four seasons.
Selected in the seventh round (224th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Hunwick competed with Team USA at two different World Junior Championships in 2004 and 2005 and played with current Bruins Mark Stuart (2004) and Phil Kessel (2005) on those teams.
The Bruins will be in action tomorrow in Pittsburgh where they will play their final game before the NHL’s two-day Holiday break against the Penguins at 3:00 p.m. ET.
