Heard in the Room, after practice -- Today

by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins
Hey! I am running around a little bit, so in the interim, here are Coach Lewis’ quotes from after practice today.

Head Coach, Dave Lewis
On Aaron Ward:
(Ward is) an experienced guy. He’s played with a couple of teams. He’s won three Stanley Cups…he’s been in that environment, which is really important regardless of how much you play. I’m hoping some of that rubs off (on our team). He’s an active player who can play in our top four with no problem at all. He’s a physical player and he’s very excited about being here. He drove here last night (from New York) to make sure he was here in time for practice. He’s excited about coming to the Bruins.

On how players react to players like Ward who have won multiple Stanley Cups:
It’s almost that you walk in the door and everybody wants to know what it’s like to win. It’s one of those things that are very hard to describe unless you have lived through it. I’m certainly sure they will be talking to him about that.

On what new players bring to the table:
I think they bring new energy because they are all excited. Aaron said he went to the hotel and there were six or seven that are still in the hotel. There was communication there and there was excitement today meeting the new guys. I know that for some of them their first day of practice is a nervous practice and that always has energy to it. Right now we’ve added to our team and we want to make sure we have the chemistry, which we think we have, and build on what we want to do -- which is to be harder to play against and to win some hockey.

On the background work done prior to the trades:
Peter (Chiarelli) and his staff have done a lot of background search. Just for an example this morning I called Mike Kitchen who was Dennis’ coach last season. I know Mike, I played with Mike, and I talk to him periodically through the season. So I thought I’d give him a call to touch base with him to get his reaction. He gave me really positive feedback. I know if you are not doing that type of research, you are probably not doing your job correctly. But I know that Peter’s staff did that research on all the trades, not just the ones that happened yesterday.

On the Bruins being in a similar situation in the playoff run that Edmonton was in the 2006-07 season:
I think it was game 81when (Edmonton) finally solidified that playoff spot. We’re going to play right to push right to the very end and see what happens.

On Marc Savard missing practice today:
Savvy, he’ll be okay for tomorrow. Just a day off.

On the injuries:
(Petr) Tenkrat looks like he’s ready to go. Glen Murray is going to skate again tomorrow to see how he is. Chuck Kobasew, the same thing.
