WILMINGTON, MA — It was a full house at Ristuccia Arena on Friday, as members of the Bruins once again gathered for another day of informal captains’ practices.
Joining the crew on Friday were familiar faces Gregory Campbell, Matt Bartkowski and Dougie Hamilton, as well as Providence mainstays Ryan Spooner and Tyler Randell. Recently acquired goaltender Jeremy Smith was also out on the ice, joining Tuukka Rask and Niklas Svedberg.
All four captains — Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Chris Kelly — were present and accounted for, as were the majority of Boston's roster players as well as a handful of Providence hopefuls.
Hamilton and Spooner addressed the media after the skate, and both discussed their desire to come into camp in the best possible shape. Hamilton also talked about the current state of the team and reiterated the fact that he expects the Bruins to compete for the Stanley Cup for many years to come, given its strong veteran core.
Campbell was the first player out on the ice on Friday, which was something new — for the last several days, David Pastrnak has made it a habit to be the first player out there, but with rookie camp underway, he and his 21 teammates set off for the Rookie Tournament in Nashville on Friday morning.
All four newcomers looked right at home on the ice and settled in quickly as two groups — split randomly between Black and White jerseys — completed a series of drills, line rushes and, eventually, about 30 minutes of scrimmaging.
Camp invite Ville Leino and signed defenseman Steve Eminger were also on the ice for the skate.
The days are ticking down until training camp officially opens: Tuesday marks the annual Bruins Foundation Golf Tournament, while off-ice testing and on-ice sessions are slated to begin later in the week.
