Poitras, selected 54th overall, talks with media

"Growing up, obviously it's a dream of every kid that one day you'll get drafted in the NHL," said Poitras. "Seeing that dream come true, becoming a Bruin - it's crazy."
Poitras comes to the Bruins from the Guelph Storm (OHL) where he was drafted in 2020, 12th overall, standing at 5-foot-9 and 149 pounds. Since then, Poitras has bulked up considerably and is now listed at 5-foot-11, 176 pounds. Although he has grown a bit in size, Poitras says his strength is his skill.
"I'm a bit of a smaller guy, I kind of pride myself on the ability to win stick battles and possess the puck," said Poitras. "I'm more of an offensive-skilled, gritty guy."
Poitras had a successful year with the Storm, logging 21 goals and 29 assists in 68 games last season. As for Poitras' future plans, he's ready to get started immediately as he gets set to travel to Boston next week.
"I'm going to go to Development Camp, prove myself at Development Camp, then get back to work in the gym and on the ice, do some power skating," said Poitras. "Obviously they've got the core group now. In the future, I hope to get myself in the lineup."
Bruins Associate Director of Amateur Scouting Ryan Nadeau says Poitras impressed with his diverse set of skills. "We see a player that's a driver, someone who has the puck a lot and can make things happen," said Nadeau. "Even when he doesn't have the puck, the motor is running, he's getting involved."
Poitras also took a moment to express his gratitude for everyone that has helped him get to this point in his career. "I just want to thank everybody who's done something for me," he said. "I really appreciate it, I couldn't be here without them."
