BostonBruins.com – Four Bruins prospects were honored by the Hockey East Association Thursday night at the league's annual awards banquet.
Boston University senior defenseman Matt Grzelcyk and Boston College junior forward Ryan Fitzgerald were named Hockey East First-Team All-Stars, while Notre Dame sophomore forward Anders Bjork was selected as a Second-Team All-Star.
BU freshman forward Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson was chosen to the All-Rookie team.
Grzelcyk was named a First-Team All-Star for the second consecutive season, despite missing a dozen games due to injury. Drafted in the third round (85th overall) by the Bruins in 2012, the Charlestown native has become one of the top blue liners in the nation. The Terriers captain has scored 10 goals and added 12 assists, while posting a plus-15 rating.
Fitzgerald, chosen in the fourth round of the 2013 NHL Draft, leads the Eagles in goals (22) and points (43) this season. The North Reading native has 97 career points and, with 52 career goals, is just two away from cracking the list of top-50 goal scorers in BC history.
Bjork was a fifth-round (146th overall) pick of the Bruins in the 2014 NHL Draft. The sophomore is tied for the Notre Dame scoring lead with 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists). He is 11th in the nation with a plus-26 rating.
Forsbacka Karlsson, a 2015 second-round pick by the B’s, ranks third on the Terriers with 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists), the fifth-highest total among Hockey East rookies. The native of Sweden centered BU’s top line for much of the season.
