BostonBruins.com - Get one last look at the full heads of hair on Dougie Hamilton and Torey Krug this weekend, because when the 7th Annual Cuts For a Cause comes around on next Wednesday, March 26, the flow will be no more.
Once again, Shawn Thornton is teaming up with 98.5 The Sports Hub and his teammates to host the annual event, which raises funds for children battling cancer, through the Shawn Thornton Foundation, Boston Bruins Foundation and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.
The money raised has tripled since the Bruins' Cuts For a Cause event first began in 2008, with Aaron Ward leading the charge. More than $260,000 has been raised through the first six years, and 2014 should add considerably to that total.
"It's been going on for seven years now, I took it over after Aaron Ward left, and it keeps on getting bigger and bigger and bigger, and we've got an even bigger venue this year," said Thornton.
The 7th Annual Cuts For a Cause is taking place at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel on March 26, from 2:30 - 5:30 p.m. While VIP tickets are sold out, general admission tickets are still available at bostonbruins.com/cutsforacause. (Bidding to shave the Bruins' heads closed on Friday, March 21, but tickets are still available).
"It's a fun one, most of the guys get involved and we really enjoy it," said Thornton. "It's a pretty easy thing for us to do to get our heads shaved to give back and make hopefully a lot of money. It keeps on growing money-wise, so hopefully that continues."
Thornton will be getting his head shaved, along with fellow Bruins Matt Bartkowski, Patrice Bergeron, Johnny Boychuk, Gregory Campbell, Jordan Caron, Zdeno Chara, Dougie Hamilton, Jarome Iginla, Chad Johnson, Chris Kelly, Torey Krug, Milan Lucic, Kevan Miller, Adam McQuaid, Daniel Paille, Dennis Seidenberg, Reilly Smith, and Carl Soderberg.
As always, a few Bruins' heads of hair become quite the topic during the event, and can sometimes take on lives' of their own.
Like, say, Adam McQuaid's mullet. Or, this season, maybe Krug's flow or Hamilton's "mop" (see below).
So, who could really use the haircut?
"Pretty obvious answer, it's Dougie. He's been growing it for a year," said Thornton.
Krug is in agreement.
"You can shave our heads and get rid of this mop," he said in the latest Bruins' Instagram video, gesturing to Hamilton's full head of flowing locks.
