BOSTON BRUINS FORWARD LOUI ERIKSSON
On how he felt about the trade and how he feels about playing with Carl Soderberg…
Yeah, I’m really looking forward to playing in Boston. It’s a real good team and for the last couple years they’ve been one of the best teams in the league. So I’m real excited to go there and play. Everything happened real fast with the trade. I’m real excited. I’m really looking forward to it. It will be awesome to come here and play and try to give my best. I hope to win the Cup so I’m real excited. [Carl] Soderberg I played with in the juniors. I know him a little bit. It will be nice to come in here with that team and play with him there.

On how much he knows about the Boston team and how they play…
Yeah, I’ve watched some games in the playoffs. Of course, I watched many games when they played because I know they’re a good team. I know they play a tough kind of style, a good defensive kind of style. I think that will fit me real well. I like to play that way. I’m just happy to be coming to a team like Boston.  I know it’s a really good team to play in so—yeah, they have really good players on that team and I’m really looking forward to come here and see them in the preseason and start to play in the season.

On if he has talked to PJ Axelsson and what he has learned about the Bruins from him…
Yeah, he texted me when he found out. He said he was really happy for me because he really liked it there so—I haven’t talked to him yet. I’m going to call him and ask some questions about Boston. I know his little brother well [Anton Axelsson] so I’m probably going to call him too and ask some questions so it’s real fun to come and play in Boston. I know they talk a lot of good things about Boston. It’s real nice.

On where he sees himself fitting into the lineup…
Yeah, I played both sides when I played in Dallas. I know both sides, but I like to play on the right side. I know I’ve been talking to Peter [Chiarelli] about it. He said he wanted me to play on the right side. I think that will be a good fit for me. I know they have really good players especially [Patrice] Bergeron and they have [David] Krejci among the centerman. They have a lot of good players to play with so I don’t think it would be any problem to play with those guys. They are going to make me better and I’m going to try and make them better too. It will be real nice to come and play with them.

On if he felt last year in Dallas that he was going to be traded and if he thought this year he may stay in Dallas…
Yeah, I thought so, but anything can happen so fast and you know the business that you can get traded. It’s always tough. I played many years in Dallas so I’ve had many good times in Dallas and I really liked it there too, but when I got the call it was Boston on the line. It was pretty persuasive for me to say yes to that because I know Boston is a good team and it’s a different chapter for me to go there and try to win games and try to go far in the playoffs and win the whole Cup. I think the match to go and play for Boston is really good for me. It will be fun for me.

On the signing of Jarome Iginla…
Yeah, for sure. I was excited when I had the call that Boston wanted me. As you said, [Jarome] Iginla signed too. I played against him a lot so I know he’s a really good player to get for your team. I know he wants to win the Cup and he’s really excited to get going. That will be really nice to play with him there too.

On playing with Patrice Bergeron and how he thinks he will fit in with him…
Yeah, for sure he’s a really good player in the league and he’s been really good for many years here. I think it will be a good fit for me to play with him. I know he’s a smart player and he can play a really good defensive game, all style. He can also score goals and do a lot of things out there so I think that will be a really good fit for me. I’m just going to try to make him better too when I play with him.

On being a finalist for the Lady Byng trophy and if that will fit in well with the physicality of the Bruins…
Yeah, that’s how I’ve been playing through my years in Dallas. I’m not trying to take penalties that much and I haven’t so I know the Bruins like to play physical and they play really good that way so I’m going to try to do that too. I’m going to try and do everything I can to help the team.

On not playing in the playoffs often and now having a good chance with the Bruins
Yeah, I think last time I was in the playoffs, we went to the Conference Finals there and I have good memories about that, it was really fun to go that far. In five years with Dallas, we haven’t made the playoffs so I’m really excited to come to Boston and try to win the Cup and go to the playoffs. I know they’ve been playing really good there the past couple years and I’m really excited to come there and help them out.

On the stability of the Bruins coaching staff…
Yeah, for sure, I’ve been trough a lot of coaches like you said, and it’s always nice to find one that likes your game and style and its been tough the last couple years because they’ve been changing coaches almost every second year. So, I hear d a lot of good things about the coach of Boston here and I’m really looking forward to come there and showing that I can play some good hockey too.

On if he has spoken to Claude Julien yet…
No, he is going to call me today actually so I haven’t spoken to him yet.

On his season overall last season…
It was kind of disappointing to me. It was a tough year for me actually so I didn’t feel that good through year. I think I hit the post and out almost the whole year so I’m looking to rebound here in the next year and try to make better plays. And it was kind of a weird year for me too this year, I was playing on every line, it felt like I couldn’t find any consistency with anyone there so it was kind of a tough one for me.

On being healthy the whole year…
Yeah, I was. So I felt good otherwise. My tempo was good and everything but it wasn’t just my year this season so I’m looking to rebound for next year.

On the culture of the Swedish National Team
I think we have a lot of good Swedish players playing in the League and, especially Detroit has a lot of players playing in the Swedish National Team and it’s always nice to come home and play with all the Swedish guys. It mixes playing together and it’s always fun to go and play, especially in the World Championships. And, yeah, they’re just really smart players. I think the Swedes kind of style are playing with a lot of smartness and really good skating ability.

On what his initial reaction was on the trade…
Yeah I found out from my agent, he called me. I was sitting there with my family acutally, he called me after, he said – he asked about waiving my no trade clause and that Boston was interested in getting me. Everything happened really fast there actually. I talked to my family quick and it was kind of an easy decision for me to make that decisions to go and play with Boston because I know it’s a good team and they really wanted me to. So I am really looking forward to that.

On coming to a place where people are really in to hockey…
Yeah, it will be a little bit different than Dallas, for sure. I’m really excited to go there and see all the fans. I know they have a lot of people going to the games and it’s a really good hockey town. And I heard a lot of good things about Boston, the whole city. And it will be really nice to check it out before everything starts and then I will be ready to play there and it will be awesome.

On if he has spoken to any of the Bruins’ players..
No, not yet, not yet. I’m thinking about going there in a couple weeks to check out the place and probably see some guys there about that time. I haven’t gotten any texts from any one but I’m probably going to get some here soon probably. And I know it’s a really good team and a good group of guys. So I’m really excited to go there and play with them.

On if he can tell us anything about Reiley Smith or Matt Fraser…
Yeah, sure, they’re two really good guys actually. Reilly Smith played some games this year and even [Matt] Fraser played some games with us and you can see some really good abilities from them. They are really good offensive players, they can create a lot of good scoring chances and both have really good shots too. I think that will be a good addition to get, and they are still young too. It will be nice to have them there with me.
