THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS…

BRUINS WIVES TO PURCHASE HALLOWEEN COSTUMES FOR CHARLESTOWN CHILDREN (The Boston Bruins partner with Wynn Resorts in Everett to host this activity): The Boston Bruins Wives will take children from the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club shopping for Halloween costumes on Wednesday, October 22 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. For more information please see below in the “Around Town” section of the Week Ahead.

BRUINS TO HOST STREET HOCKEY CLINICS IN MEDFORD & CHELSEA (The Bruins partner with Wynn Resorts in Everett to host this activity): The Boston Bruins Street Brigade program will visit the Medford Boys & Girls Club on Thursday, October 23 from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m and the Chelsea Excel After School Program on Thursday, October 30 from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Street Brigade brings the sport of hockey to schools, community centers and other places where children can play hockey in a safe and structured environment. Hockey equipment and instructions are provided for children to learn and enjoy hockey free of charge. All equipment is donated to the club for their children to continue playing hockey after the event.

B’S TO HOST ON-ICE CLINICS FOR LOCAL YOUTH HOCKEY GROUPS (The Bruins partner with Wynn Resorts in Everett to host this activity): The Boston Bruins will be stopping by practices of Malden-East Boston Youth Hockey and Cambridge Youth Hockey to run drills and provide giveaways for all children involved. Bruins alumni Tommy Songin will run the players through on-ice station based practice sessions focusing on the fundamentals of hockey. BRUINS CELEBRATE NESN’S 30TH: The Boston Bruins will be celebrating NESN’s 30th Anniversary on Tuesday, October 21 when they host  the San Jose Sharks at 7 p.m. NESN has consistently been one of the top-rated regional sports networks in the country with award-winning Bruins coverage. Celebrating 30 years in 2014, the network is delivered to over 4 million homes throughout the six-state New England region and an additional 5 million homes nationally as NESN National. Forbes Magazine recently ranked NESN as the 8th Most Valuable Sports Business Brand in the world. NESN.com, the network’s online sports news service, is the most visited regional sports network website in the country. Encore presentations of NESN’s 30th Anniversary Special are scheduled to air Sunday at 3 p.m., Monday at 4 p.m. and Wednesday at 9 p.m.
 
BRUINS WALGREENS KID CAPTAIN CONTEST: The Boston Bruins are running the “Walgreens Kids Captain” contest for youth hockey players between the ages of eight and twelve. Walgreens Kids Captain contest winners will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to stand on the ice with the Boston Bruins starting lineup during the National Anthem, at select Bruins home games at TD Garden. Winners will also receive four tickets to watch the game, a behind the scenes tour of TD Garden, a chance to high five the Bruins players as they take the ice for pregame warmups, and a custom Bruins jersey with their own name. Parents and legal guardians of youth hockey players between the ages of eight and twelve can sign up in participating Walgreens to enter the sweepstakes or visit bostonbruins.com/kidscaptain. All winners must be current youth hockey players and have complete hockey equipment.  Contest ends on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11:59 AM.

SEASON 2 OF BEHIND THE B: Season Two of the Black & Gold’s all-access television series “Behind the B” presented by Alex and Ani has begun, 13 episodes of “Behind the B” are slated to air during the 2014-15 season. All episodes will again be narrated by actor and Worcester, MA native, Denis Leary.

216 AND COUNTING: Counting the Bruins’ Monday afternoon game vs the Avalanche on October 13, the Boston Bruins have sold out 216 straight regular season and playoff games. This sellout streak began more than four years ago on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

OFF THE ICE…

PATRICE’S PALS: As a part of his continuing charitable initiative Patrice’s Pals, Bruins alternate captain Patrice Bergeron invites children from local hospitals and other organizations to experience a Bruins home game from his luxury suite. Children and their families receive goodie bags filled with Bruins memorabilia, a visit from the Bruins Mascot Blades and Bruins Ice Girls, as well as a feature on the Garden HDX. After the game, Patrice’s Pals are escorted to ice level and introduced to Patrice himself who signs autographs and takes pictures with his Pals.

COMMUNITY TICKET PROGRAM: For the entirety of the Boston Bruins 2014-15 regular season, Bruins Principal and Alternate Governor Charlie Jacobs is donating ten balcony tickets to every home game to children from charitable organizations across New England, who are invited to enjoy a Bruins home game from these donated seats.
