B’s Legends Speak About Chief

by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins
Johnny McKenzie

"Johnny Bucyk was the finest gentlemen that I met, and he also played great hockey. He would pass the puck to you, and then off the ice he’d show you where all the good bars and restaurants were."

Bronco Horvath
"This guy is unbelievable. He didn’t know where he was going with the puck, and neither did I. That’s why we hit it so well. It’s not just for the hockey, but the charity. That’s what glows in my mind about him. You can’t thank the guy enough. You can’t."

Terry O’Reilly
"He’s just a leader. He was my captain when I broke in with the Bruins. He showed me the ropes on and off the ice, and he did so much with charity. We also used to carpool together, so on the way home, he’d have three or four stops for different charities. He’s just a very generous man who has helped a lot of people over the years."

Cam Neely
"50 years with any organization with one organization is quite an accomplishment. He was also very helpful when I first started in Boston. If I never needed anything, Johnny was the guy I went to. He’s the go-to guy around here."

Ray Bourque
"I think it’s a great night and something that’s very well-deserved. He’s done so many different things for this organization. He was a great player and now he’s a great ambassador for the team. Even though he retired a year before I started playing, he still took very good care of me and others who came after him. He told us where to go to get whatever we needed. We all love the Chief, and it’s fun to be here."
