by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins
Boston, MA – On Tuesday, December 8, from 2 p.m. unitl 4 p.m. Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic, Marco Sturm and Tim Thomas are taking a trip to Target in Woburn (101 Commerce Way, Woburn, MA 01801) for the team’s annual Holiday Toy Shopping Event. The players are buying toys that will be given as gifts to children who are unable celebrate the holidays at home.

Each player will be provided a shopping wish list from the hospitals receiving the donation. Children’s Hospital, Mass General Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children, Boston Medical Center, Spaulding Rehab Hospital, Franciscan Hospital for Children and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center will be the recipients of the Boston Bruins generosity.

Members of the 2009-10 Boston Bruins roster donate money from their own pockets, and for every dollar the team raises the Boston Bruins organization matches. Last year $22,000 worth of toys were purchased and donated by the players and the organization.

Bruins Hall of Famer Ray Bourque started the player holiday toy shopping and delivery tradition when he was captain, while defenseman Hal Gill and forward P.J. Axelsson continued it. This year Patrice Bergeron has taken responsibility for the program and will coordinate the delivery of the toys on Wednesday, December 16.
