Axelsson, Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Phil Kessel, Milan Lucic, Marc Savard, Tim Thomas, Blake Wheeler and the entire Boston Bruins 2008-09 roster are taking a trip to Target in Woburn for the team’s annual Holiday Toy Shopping Event. The players are buying toys that will be given as gifts to children who are unable celebrate the holidays at home.

Each player will be provided a shopping wish list from the hospitals receiving the donation. Childrens Hospital, Mass General Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children, Boston Medical Center, Spaulding Rehab Hospital, Franciscan Hospital for Children and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center will be the recipients of the Boston Bruins generosity.

Members of the 2008-09 Boston Bruins roster donate money from their own pockets, and for every dollar the team raises the Boston Bruins organization matches. Last year $22,000 worth of toys were purchased by the players and the organization.

Bruins Hall of Famer Ray Bourque, started the player holiday toy shopping and delivery tradition when he was captain, defenseman Hal Gill continued the tradition and for the past three seasons P.J. Axelsson has taken responsibility for the program.

This year the toys will be delivered on December 16, 2008.
