BOSTON, MA –
On Tuesday, December 20, beginning at approximately 11:45 a.m., the entire 2011 – 12 Boston Bruins team including Patrice Bergeron
, Zdeno Chara
, Nathan Horton
, Milan Lucic
, and Tim Thomas
will continue the Bruins annual toy delivery holiday tradition. The players will be divided into seven groups, with each group visiting the following seven hospitals: Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center, Children’s Hospital Boston, Massachusetts General Hospital for Children, Shriners Hospital for Children, Boston Medical Center, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Franciscan Hospital for Children.
An estimated total of over $23,000, donated by the Bruins players, coaches and the Boston Bruins Foundation, was used by the team to shop for toys on Monday, December 12. Members of the 2011-12 Boston Bruins roster personally donated to the initiative, and for every dollar the team raised the Boston Bruins Foundation matched. The toys will be packed and transported to each of the hospitals courtesy of Gentle Giant Moving Company. In addition, Volvo will provide transportation for the players to each hospital for the toy delivery.
Bruins Hall of Famer Ray Bourque started the player holiday toy shopping and delivery tradition when he was captain, while defenseman Hal Gill and forward P.J. Axelsson continued it. For the third consecutive year, Patrice Bergeron
has taken responsibility for the program.
The 2011-2012 Boston Bruins season is presented by the Massachusetts State Lottery.
