BOSTON, MA -
On Saturday, April 2 prior to the start of the Bruins/Thrashers game, NESN analyst Jack Edwards will announce the winner of the NESN 7th Player Award. The 7th Player Award is chosen by the fans and presented to the Bruins player who has performed above and beyond expectations throughout the season. The most recent recipients include Milan Lucic
(2008), David Krejci
(2009) and Tuukka Rask
On Wednesday, April 6 the Boston Bruins will present four awards during the Bruins/Islanders pregame presentation: Eddie Shore Award (exceptional hustle and determination, chosen by the "Gallery Gods"), Elizabeth Dufresne Trophy (outstanding performance during home games, voted by Boston media), John P. Bucyk Award (greatest off-ice charitable contributions, chosen by John Bucyk) and the Bruins Three Stars Award (top performers at home over the course of the season, chosen by 98.5 The Sports Hub).
In addition, the Boston Bruins Foundation and the Boston Chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA) will make a 20,000 donation that will be divided and given to WRITE Boston and One Mission. WRITE Boston is a citywide initiative that seeks to foster a culture of writing in all public high schools in Boston. The program works to improve writing proficiency among high school students by matching teachers with expert writing coaches and creating opportunities for students to engage in the writing process with peers and community members. One Mission is a childhood cancer foundation dedicated to enhancing the lives of pediatric cancer patients and their families. One Mission works to provide help, hope, care, and support to children and their families touched by pediatric cancer.
The Boston Bruins Foundation and the Boston Chapter of the PHWA partnered on a program to raise money for local charities by asking the working media who cover Bruins home games to make a small donation when dining in the Will McDonough Press Room prior to games.
Through the program, those members of the media who dined in the Press Room were asked to make an $8.00 donation, and 100 percent of the donation went to the Boston Bruins Foundation. Over past three seasons, the Foundation collected $50,000 worth of donations.
