Bruins Week Ahead

by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins

BERGERON ON NHL 36: NHL Original Productions cameras joined the Bruins' alternate captain at 7:30 a.m., ET, Tuesday, December 27 and followed him for 36 hours as Bergeron participated in team practices, traveled with teammates to Arizona and prepared for Boston's 2-1 overtime win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday, December 28.

“NHL 36: Patrice Bergeron” will air Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 6:30 p.m. on NBC Sports Network (formerly VERSUS). Narration is provided by actor and Emmy Award winner Peter Coyote. The 30 minute show will be followed on NBC Sports Network by NHL LIVE at 7:00 p.m. ET, and the Bruins' game in New Jersey against the Devils at 7:30.

UPCOMING GAMES: The Northeast Division leading Bruins will have back-to-back midweek games this week on Wednesday and Thursday before their much anticipated meeting with the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday, January 7.

Wednesday’s matchup will be the B’s first visit to New Jersey of the season. The Devils have won three straight at home and are 9-3-0 in their last 12 games overall, entering Monday night’s game at Ottawa. New Jersey currently owns the six spot in the Eastern Conference standings with 43 points.

The Bruins will return home to host the Calgary Flames on Thursday, January 5. With 41 points, the Flames rank 12th in the Western Conference. This will be the only meeting of the season between the two clubs and will mark the end of a seven game road trip for Calgary.

Saturday’s matinee tilt with the Canucks will be the first time the two clubs have battled since the B’s defeated Vancouver in seven games during the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. Like the Bruins, the Canucks have surged to the top of their division after a sluggish start, as Vancouver currently owns the second most points in the Conference with 50.

Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley will call the two home games on NESN while the NBC Sports Network (formerly VERSUS) will broadcast Wednesday’s game against the Devils. The tandem of Dave Goucher and Bob Beers will handle the radio duties for all three contests on 98.5 The Sports Hub. Start times for the games are as follows:

01/04 at NJD, 7:30 p.m. ET
01/05 vs. CGY, 7:00 p.m. ET
01/07 vs. VAN, 1:00 p.m. ET

104 AND COUNTING: Including the Bruins/Panthers game on Friday, December 23 the Bruins have now sold out their last 104 home games at the TD Garden, including regular season and playoffs. This sellout streak began nearly two years ago on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK: A newcomer takes home Tweet of the Week honors this week, as NESN’s play-by-play man Jack Edwards makes a strong first impression and earns the nod in his first eligible week. Sending out the majority of his tweets during tv timeouts, Edwards will certainly earn “degree of difficulty” points and could emerge as a second half contender to challenge for the 2011-12 Tweet of the Week title.

@RealJackEdwards: “OK. Be gentle with me. It's my first time. Having grown up with dinosaurs as pets, I have joined the modern world. Hello, Tweet Universe.”
