Bruins Week Ahead

by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins

UPCOMING GAME SCHEDULE: The Bruins continue their three game homestand when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, October 8 at the TD Garden (7:00 p.m. TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub). It will be the Lightning’s first visit to the Garden since Game 7 of the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals on May 27. Please note that the team will do its standard player introductions before this game, as they normally would in a non-championship season.

The Bruins will then play the Colorado Avalanche during a Columbus Day matinee on Monday, October 10 at 1 p.m. ET (TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub).

SIMILAR START: During the 2010-11 season, the Bruins dropped their season opener to the Ilya Bryzgalov-led Phoenix Coyotes. Bryzgalov helped spoil the B’s season opener this year as well, making 22 saves in a 2-1 victory with his new team, the Philadelphia Flyers.

PICKING UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF: Brad Marchand netted the Bruins first goal of the 2011-12 season. Worth mention is that he scored the final goal of the B’s championship season in 2011 during Game 7 in Vancouver.

ON THE ROAD: The Bruins will visit the Carolina Hurricanes for their first road game of the year on Wednesday, October 12. Following the game, the team will stay in Carolina and practice there on Thursday before departing for Chicago. The matchup with the Blackhawks on Saturday will feature the last two Stanley Cup champions.

FULL 60 TO HISTORY: The Bruins official championship season commemorative book Full 60 to History: The Inside Story of the 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins is on presale now on Full 60 to History gives readers unprecedented behind-the-scenes access into the Bruins championship season. Beginning with the team “picking up the pieces” after their 2010 playoff exit against Philadelphia, continuing through Belfast, Prague, across North America and to Vancouver for the unforgettable locker room celebration on June 15, Full 60 to History provides content that has never been seen or heard before. Exclusive insight into the trades that Peter Chiarelli made (and didn’t make), intermission speeches from Head Coach Claude Julien, postgame talks that only those inside the locker room were privy to, the meaning behind the title of the book, and countless memorable conversations and moments of the 2010-11 season are all explained in full detail.

CROSS INSURANCE BECOMES FIRST PRACTICE PARTNER: The Boston Bruins announced on October 4 that Cross Insurance will be the first partner of the Bruins practice jerseys. In addition to the practice jerseys Cross Insurance will have a visible presence at the Bruins primary practice facility at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, MA.

WIN A STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP RING: The Boston Bruins Foundation will host a raffle where a lucky Bruins fan will win his or her own official Boston Bruins Stanley Cup Championship ring. The winner will also have the opportunity to have the ring personalized with his or her name. Raffle tickets are on sale now at for $5.00 per ticket, with the net proceeds benefiting the Boston Bruins Foundation.

2010-11 BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK SEASON WINNER: Congratulations to @DJ_Bean of for taking home the 2010 Boston Media Tweet of the Week championship. The following tweet as the Stanley Cup embroidered fan banner was making its way around the Garden broke the three-way tie between The Bruins Blog’s Matt Kalman and Comcast’s Joe Haggerty.
@DJ_Bean: “Bruins reusing flag from ring ceremony here. Ference approves.”

2010 Final Standings:
@DJ_Bean (DJ Bean, 4*
@TheBruinsBlog (Matt Kalman, 4
@HackswithHaggs (Joe Haggerty, 4
*won the one-week playoff

The 2011-12 campaign will begin this week. Can @DJ_Bean repeat or will he suffer from the dreaded Tweet of the Week hangover? Prognosticators expect @GlobeFluto (Fluto Shinzawa, Boston Globe) to be among the contenders this season, as he had a strong second half after joining late in the game last year. Incumbents @HackswithHaggs and @TheBruinsBlog should be in the mix as well. On the TV side, look for @MikeGiardi (Mike Giardi, Comcast), @RochieWBZ (Dan Roche, WBZ) and @ScottWCVB (Scott Isaacs, WCVB who will be playing all year with a chip on his shoulder due to last year’s snub) to make some noise.
