Bruins Week Ahead: 9/26 - 10/2

Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced September 25, that the club has signed defenseman Brandon Carlo to an entry-level contract. Carlo, 18, has appeared in two preseason games for Boston, recording a goal against the New York Rangers on September 24 at TD Garden. Carlo played the last two seasons (2013-15) for the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League. He served as Alternate Captain for the Americans during 2014-15 and posted 4-21=25 totals with 90 PIM in 63 games played.  In total, the blueliner has appeared in 134 matchups in the WHL, notching seven goals and 31 assists for 38 points with 156 penalty minutes. The native of Colorado Springs, CO has twice represented the U.S. in international play at the 2015 World Junior Championships (0-1=1 totals in 5 games) and earned a Silver medal at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial.  Prior to Training Camp, Carlo attended Bruins Development Camp and Bruins Rookie Camp. The 6’5”, 203-pound defenseman was drafted by Boston in the second round (37th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

BOSTON INJURIES:  Head Coach Claude Julien told reporters on September 25 that defenseman Zdeno Chara is day-to-day with an upper body injury… Dennis Seidenberg underwent a lumbar microdiscectomy on September 24 to repair a lumbar spine disc herniation. The surgery was performed by Dr. Louis Jenis at Massachusetts General Hospital. Seidenberg is expected to make a full recovery and will be sidelined approximately eight weeks… GM Don Sweeney announced that forward Seth Griffith will miss three to four weeks with a MCL sprain in his left knee. The injury occurred in third period of the Bruins vs. Devils preseason game on September 20 at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI.

UPCOMING GAMES BROADCAST SCHEDULE: The NHL Network (US) will be airing the B’s preseason games against the New York Rangers on September 30 and the Washington Capitals on October 2. The tandem of Dave Goucher and Bob Beers will handle all radio duties on 98.5 The Sports Hub. The Bruins vs. Red Wings game on 9/26 in Detroit will not be broadcast locally on television or radio. LITTLE BRUINS PRES. BY FRIENDLY’S AND MASS HOCKEY: The Boston Bruins announced that the Little Bruins Learn to Play program presented by Friendly’s and Mass Hockey, an initiative designed to introduce the game of ice hockey by overcoming affordability barriers that limit involvement at the beginner level in an effort to increase participation in youth hockey and grow the game, will begin its second season in October when over 600 youth will have the opportunity to participate at one of twelve locations across Massachusetts. Each participant will be outfitted with gear from head-to-toe and receive four weeks of on-ice instruction for $100. The Little Bruins program is helping increase youth hockey participation, over 60% of the youth hockey players who registered for the Little Bruins program last year are currently enrolled in organized hockey. Registration for the Little Bruins program will begin on September 23rd at 10:00 a.m. on on a first come, first serve basis for children ages five to eight.

SEASON 3 OF BEHIND THE B: The Black & Gold’s all-access television series “Behind the B” presented by Alex and Ani has begun and aired its first episode of season three on September 17 on NESN. The Bruins have 13 episodes slated to air during the 2015-16 season and will be again narrated by actor and Worcester, MA native, Denis Leary. All episodes of Behind the B will air on NESN and can be streamed online at Other exclusive Behind the B related content will be available on and the Boston Bruins Digital Entertainment Network (Bruins DEN) throughout the season.  Remaining dates for the Behind the B schedule will be announced at a later time.

BRUINS ON THE AIRWAVES: Bruins defenseman Torey Krug has been confirmed as a weekly call-in guest with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Scott Zolak and Marc Bertrand  (Zo and Bertrand), which airs weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., while forward Max Talbot is expected to be regular a guest with 98.5's Fred Toucher and Rich Shertenlieb (Toucher and Rich), which airs weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Adam McQuaid will be a regular guest on 100.7 WZLX with Kevin Karlson and Pete McKenzie (Karlson & McKenzie), which airs weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  Call-in days and times are dependent upon the B’s schedule.
