Bruins Week Ahead: 9/26 - 10/2

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS (COMING TO YOU FROM OTTAWA, ONTARIO)
THE END IS NEAR: Following Friday night’s game against the Senators in Ottawa, the Bruins have just one preseason game remaining on their ‘09 docket, a Saturday night home contest against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7:00 p.m. Both games will be carried on the Bruins flagship radio station, 98.5 The Sports Hub (98.5 FM). Saturday’s game against Columbus will be televised on NESN.

Through the first six games of the preseason, the B’s have posted a 4-1-1 record. Only Vancouver has a better preseason record, as the Canucks are unbeaten in regulation with a 6-0-1 mark in their six contests.

MEDIA DAY UPDATE: Members of the media should be advised that the formal press conference portion of the event will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Legends at the TD Garden. Participating in the press conference from the Bruins organization will be Owner Jeremy Jacobs, Principal Charlie Jacobs, General Manager Peter Chiarelli, Vice President Cam Neely and Head Coach Claude Julien. Bruins players will be available to the media at approximately 11:30 a.m. after the press conference concludes.

The team will practice before the Media Day festivities at the TD Garden beginning at 9:30 a.m.

PARTY WITH PATRICE: Patrice Bergeron will host a party on Sunday, September 27 at Jillian’s of Boston (143 Ipswich Street, Boston, MA 02214) for all of his “Pals” who attended Bruins games last year as part of “Patrice’s Pals” program. This event begins at 1:30 p.m. and is open to the media.

THAT’S A LOT OF TWIGS…: Defenseman Andrew Ference will donate $7,500 worth of new of hockey sticks to the SCORE Boston youth hockey program on Saturday, September 26 after the Bruins/Blue Jackets game. He will donate 68 total sticks, broken down by the following types: 12 of the same lefty senior sticks Ference uses in games, 30 righty and 20 lefty junior sticks and 6 righty senior sticks.

FOLLOW WHEELS:  Blake Wheeler will begin “tweeting” under the name “NHLBruins” on Twitter once training camp begins. Follow Wheeler to hear the second year pro’s musings about life on and off the ice.

WINTER CLASSIC JERSEY AVAILABLE: Fans can preorder the jersey the Black and Gold will don during the Winter Classic through the Boston Bruins Pro Shop.

WHAT: SCORE Boston Stick Donation
On Saturday, October 26, immediately following the Bruins/Blue Jackets contest, Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference will donate $7,500 worth of new hockey sticks to the SCORE Boston youth hockey program.  In addition, 15 teens currently part of the SCORE Boston program will watch the game then meet Ference postgame where they will receive the sticks, get autographs and take photos. Ference's donation includes: 12 personal Ference lefty senior sticks, 30 righty and 20 lefty junior sticks and 6 righty senior sticks.

WHAT: "Patrice’s Pals" Party
On Sunday, September 27, Patrice Bergeron will be hosting a party at Jillian’s of Boston for all the children and their families that attended the "Patrice's Pals" suite during the 2008-2009 season. Each of the children in attendance will play games, eat lunch and chat with Bergeron throughout the fun-filled afternoon. The children invited to the party are from either Massachusetts General Hospital’s Center for Pediatric Cancer, Children’s Hospital Boston, or the Oak Square YMCA.

WHAT P.A.S.S. Clinic
P.A.S.S. (Partnership to Assist Skaters and Shooters) is a 10 clinic series conducted by the Boston Bruins and sponsored by TD Bank.  P.A.S.S. focuses on teaching youth hockey players between the ages of 8 and 12 basic hockey skills. All participants receive a P.A.S.S. jersey and a gift bag filled with an equipment bag tag, water bottle and two tickets to an upcoming Bruins game. TD Bank also presents each hosting youth hockey organization with a $1000 donation.

WHAT: 2009 Boston Bruins Fan Fest sponsored by TD Bank
In celebration the Boston Bruins opening night, fans of all ages are invited to the Boston Bruins Fan Fest. The festivities will be hosted by Fred Toucher from 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Toucher and Rich” show. This free event includes: interactive games, face painting, live music from Hypercane and the opportunity to take photos with the Norris, Vezina and Jack Adams trophies won by Zdeno Chara, Tim Thomas and Head Coach Claude Julien. In addition, the first 1000 fans will receive a free, limited edition Bruins t-shirt.
