THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS...

SAVARD TO SPEAK: Bruins center Marc Savard will address the media at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 25 in the Bruins locker room.

PRESEASON SLATE HEATS UP: Following back-to-back road games last week against the Habs and Panthers, the Bruins preseason home schedule gets going this week with a home tilt against the Panthers on Saturday, September 25 (7:00 PM, TV:NESN, No Radio).

The Bruins will have two more domestic preseason games before leaving for Belfast one Wednesday, as the Black and Gold will play a home-and-home series with the Capitals on Tuesday in DC and Wednesday in Boston (Both games, 7:00 PM, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub, No TV).

B’S TRIM ROSTER BY NINE: Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced Friday that they have released nine players from training camp: Andrew Bodnarchuk, Ryan Button, Craig Cunningham, Jordan Knackstedt, Jared Knight, Lane MacDermid, Kirk MacDonald, Jeff Penner, and Joe Rullier.

Button (Prince Albert Raiders, Western Hockey League), Cunningham (Vancouver Giants, Western Hockey League) and Knight (London Knights, Ontario Hockey League) are being returned to their junior clubs.

Rullier and MacDonald have been released from their tryout agreements. MacDonald will be reporting to the Providence Bruins training camp.

Bodnarchuk, Knackstedt, MacDermid and Penner have been assigned to the Providence Bruins.

40 players remain in Boston’s training camp.

B’S IN BRATTLEBORO: The Bruins will hold team-building activities in Brattleboro, Vermont on Sunday, September 26 and Monday, September 27. This is similar to the trips done during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 preseasons when the club spent a few days during training camp in Stowe, VT.

MEDIA DAY: Media Day will now take place at the TD Garden on Wednesday, September 29 at 10:30 a.m. Bruins Owner Jeremy Jacobs, Principal Charlie Jacobs, President Cam Neely, General Manager Peter Chiarelli, and Head Coach Claude Julien will hold a press conference at the TD Garden.

HOUDA HONORED: Bruins Assistant coach Doug Houda, was inducted into the Rochester Americans Hall of Fame on Thursday night. Houda finished his playing career with the Amerks and dropped the ceremonial first puck prior to the Bruins/Panthers game.

PRESEASON BROADCAST INFO: Please note that Saturday’s game versus Florida will be televised on NESN, while both Tuesday and Wednesday’s games against Washington will be broadcast on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

WHAT: Rodman Ride for Kids
The Boston Bruins Foundation bike team will be participating in the annual Rodman Ride for Kids on Saturday, September 25. The BBF team will be biking 50 miles wearing special jerseys to demonstrate their support. The Rodman Ride for Kids is an umbrella matching gift charity raising funds for youth-focused social service agencies that support at-risk kids in Massachusetts.

WHAT: Mini 1-On-1 Tournament Presented by TD Bank
The Mini 1-On-1 competition presented by TD Bank will take place on the ice at the TD Garden on Sunday, September 26. Youth hockey players in four categories including: boys age eight and under, girls age 10 and under, boys age 10 and under and girls age 12 and under will participate in the single elimination skills competition. The Mini 1 on 1 teams from across New England will be competing for a spot in the TV competition. The TD Bank Mini 1-On-1 will be televised in high definition on NESN during the intermissions of Bruins games. Each airing will also be available on the NESN Web site with the ability to share video links online.
