HART TROPHY CONVERSATION: Bruins forward Brad Marchand, who earned his first NHL All-Star selection this season, is in the midst of a tightly contested race for the Hart Trophy, given annually to the "player judged most valuable to his team" in the NHL. In his eighth season, all with the Bruins, the 28-year-old Halifax, N.S. native leads the Bruins with 37 goals (tied for career high, tied for second in NHL) and 43 assists (career high) for 80 points (career high, fourth in NHL) in 74 games. He also has three shorthanded goals (tied for third in NHL), seven game-winning goals (fourth in NHL) and leads the Bruins with 18 multi-point games. He was named the NHL's second star for the month of January and was named the NHL's first star of the week for the week ending March 19. Since January 1, Marchand leads the league in goals (27) and points (49). The last Bruins player to win the Hart Trophy was Joe Thornton (2005-06), who was traded during the season to the San Jose Sharks.

BRUINS SIGN FITZGERALD AND JOHANSSON TO ENTRY-LEVEL CONTRACTS: Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, March 24, that the team has signed Boston College forward Ryan Fitzgerald to a two-year entry-level contract, beginning the with 2017-18 season, and defenseman Emil Johansson to a three-year entry-level contract, beginning with the 2017-18 season. Fitzgerald will join the Providence Bruins on an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) and Johansson will join the Providence Bruins on a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO) for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.
