THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD

FEBRUARY 11 - FEBRUARY 18

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS:
FOUR-GAME WEEK UPCOMING: The Bruins will have four games next week, beginning with their visit to Detroit to face the Red Wings in the NBC Game of the Week (Sunday, February 13, 12:30 p.m., TV: NBC, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub). They will then host the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, February 15 before back-to-back road games against the Islanders and Senators on Thursday and Friday. All three weekday games will be televised on NESN and broadcast on 98.5 The Sports Hub. Friday’s tilt in Ottawa will be a 7:30 p.m. start.

MARCHAND TO JOIN WZLX: Bruins forward Brad Marchand will join Karlson and McKenzie on 100.7 WZLX every Tuesday morning at 8:25 a.m. beginning this Tuesday, February 15.

SELKE RESUME: The NHL’s First Star of the Month for January Patrice Bergeron now has 45 points on the season with 19 goals and 26 assists. He is fourth among NHL forwards in plus/minus with a +22 and centers the Bruins line most frequently deployed against the opposition’s top scoring line. He also leads all Bruins forwards in shorthanded ice-time with an average of 2:08 per game (skaters who have appeared in more than 30 games this year) and also averages 2:47 on the power play.

THE FIGHTER: “Irish” Micky Ward, the decorated boxer from Lowell, MA who the Academy Award®-nominated film “The Fighter” is based on, will drop the ceremonial puck before the Bruins/Red Wings game on Friday February 11 at the TD Garden in Boston (7:00 p.m., TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub). Ward will be available to the media at 6:15 p.m. in the locker room hallway of the TD Garden and also join NESN during their second intermission report. The Fighter will be released on two-disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack with Digital Copy, on standard DVD and on VOD March 15, 2011 from Paramount Home Entertainment.

FIGHT CLUB: On Wednesday night, the Bruins were assessed six fighting majors against the Montreal Canadiens, which vaulted the Black and Gold to first in the NHL in fighting majors with 55, just ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins (54). Goaltender Tim Thomas dropped the gloves with Montreal’s Carey Price in that game, which was the first fight of Thomas’ career. The Bruins improved to 20-9-4 when a fight occurs, 7-3-1 when multiple fights occur and 9-3-1 when enforcer Shawn Thornton gets in a fight. The B’s have been much more inclined to fight at home than on the road, with 38 of their 55 fights (69%) occurring at the TD Garden.

Here is the breakdown of fighting majors this season:
Thornton (13, tied for fourth most in NHL)
McQuaid (10)
Campbell (8)
Ference (4)
Horton (3)
Lucic (3)
Stuart (3)
Boychuk (2)
Krejci (2)
Chara, Paille, Recchi, Savard, Seidenberg, Thomas and Hunwick all have 1.
