THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS:
HABS, LEAFS BACK TO BACK: The Bruins will visit the Bell Centre for the first time this season Friday night when they play the Canadiens at 8:00 p.m. ET (TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub). The later start time is due to the Canadiens’ officially celebrating their 100th birthday with extended pregame ceremonies.

Following Friday’s game, the Black & Gold will have a quick turnaround back to Boston, as they will face Phil Kessel and the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday night at the TD Garden (TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub). It will be Kessel’s first game back to Boston since being dealt to the Leafs for two first round picks and a second rounder on September 18. Both teams are hot, as the Bruins are 6-0-1 in their last seven while the Leafs are 5-1-2 in their last eight.

ANNUAL TOY SHOPPING EVENT SET FOR TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8: On Tuesday, December 8, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic, Marco Sturm and Tim Thomas are taking a trip to Target in Woburn (101 Commerce Way, Woburn, MA 01801) for the team's annual Holiday Toy Shopping Event. The B’s will purchase toys for children unable to spend the holidays at home and deliver them to seven hospitals in the Greater Boston area. The toy delivery will be done Wednesday, December 16. Times will be confirmed in the coming days.

“TOYS FOR TOTS”: Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to the Bruins games on Saturday, December 5 and Thursday, December 10 to help contribute to the US Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program. Fans who donate will be entered into a lottery to win two tickets to the Winter Classic at Fenway Park.

TRUCK TOUR ROLLS OUT: With less than a month away to the 2010 Bridgestone Winter Classic, the world’s largest mobile rink refrigeration unit – a custom built, 53-foot truck that houses the specialized equipment used to make the ice for the event – has embarked on a trek from Toronto to Fenway Park, with stops in Philadelphia and New York along the way. The truck will roll in to Fenway on December Thursday, December 10 at 12 noon. Check out NHL.com for more information.

“TEAM CHALLENGE” REGISTRATION EXTENDED UNTIL MONDAY, DECEMBER 7: Due to the tremendous response from youth hockey teams and Bruins fans throughout New England, the Boston Bruins will extend registration for the “Boston Bruins Youth Hockey Team Challenge” presented by The Savings Bank Life Insurance Company of Massachusetts (SBLI, known in Connecticut as Centrian Life Insurance), to Monday, December 7 at noon ET. To date over 250 youth hockey teams have registered and over 125,000 votes have been cast from Bruins fans. Boston Bruins Principal Charlie Jacobs announced last Wednesday the club launched the "Boston Bruins Youth Hockey Team Challenge" presented by The Savings Bank Life Insurance Company of Massachusetts an online contest on BostonBruins.com for youth hockey teams throughout New England, where 25 teams will win 20 tickets to the Winter Classic at Fenway Park. AT&T LEGENDS CLASSIC TICKETS ON SALE: Tickets to the AT&T Legends Classic – which will take place at Fenway Park on January 2, 2010 –  went on sale to the general public last Friday at  10am and cost $10, $15, $20 or $25. Tickets can be purchased online at BostonBruins.com, by calling 617-624-BEAR (2327) and in-person at all Ticketmaster outlets or the TD Garden Box Office. Yesterday, during a special pre-sale for Bruins Season Ticket Holders, Cybear members and Red Sox Season Ticket Holders, over 12,000 tickets were sold.

THE STAT OF THE WEEK, COURTESY OF THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD STAT MACHINE:
The Bruins are currently tied with NY Islanders and Tampa Bay as having played the most overtime games in the NHL so far this season with 11, and have played to a league-high nine shootouts (5-4 record). The Bruins single-season “team record” for the most shootouts in the five seasons that they have been used is 13, which happened in 2006-07 (9-4) and 2007-08 (6-7).

WHAT: Boston Bruins Toy Collection for the US Marine Corps “Toys for Tots”
The Boston Bruins will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for children in need through the US Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program during their home games on December 5 and 10. The collections will take place at each of the TD Garden entrance turnstiles. Fans choosing to donate at either home game will be entered to win two tickets to the 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic Game at Fenway Park on January 1. The Boston Bruins “Skate with the Ice Girls” is heading to the Veteran’s Skating Arena this Sunday (4 Park Street Gardner, MA 01440) to skate with Bruins fans. Bruins fans will also have a chance to win Bruins autographed memorabilia and great prizes.

WHAT: P.A.S.S. in Partnership with TD Bank
P.A.S.S. (Partnership to Assist Skaters and Shooters) is a 10 clinic series conducted by the Boston Bruins and sponsored by TD Bank.  P.A.S.S. focuses on teaching youth hockey players between the ages of 8 and 12 basic hockey skills. All participants receive a P.A.S.S. jersey and a gift bag filled with an equipment bag tag, water bottle and two tickets to an upcoming Bruins game. TD Bank also presents each hosting youth hockey organization with a $1000 donation.

WHAT: Boston Bruins Annual Holiday Toy Shopping
Boston Bruins Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic, Marco Sturm and Tim Thomas are taking a trip to Target in Woburn for the team’s annual Holiday Toy Shopping Event. The players are buying toys that will be given as gifts to children who are unable celebrate the holidays at home. Members of the 2009-10 Boston Bruins roster donate money from their own pockets, and for every dollar the team raises the Boston Bruins organization matches.

WHAT: Winter Classic Watch & Win
Bruins fans are encouraged to watch every Bruins game at the TD Garden or on NESN throughout December for the chance to win two tickets to the 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Fenway Park on January 1.  Each game, the Bruins will choose a time the Winter Classic Watch and Win keyword will be revealed to the viewer or fan in attendance at TD Garden.  Fans must text the keyword, spelled correctly, along with their email address to 37619 before the end of the game to join Cybear and be entered to win.

“COMMUNITY CAPTAIN” PRESENTED BY THE LOTTERY:
During each Boston Bruins home game, a member of the local community is acknowledged for their contributions as the “Community Captain” of the game. The Community Captain receives four complimentary game tickets to a Bruins home game where they will be recognized on the TD Garden HDX (video scoreboard). They will also receive a Boston Bruins Prize Pack.

Here are the Community Captains who will be recognized during this week’s home games:

December 5: Sgt. Clint Schibner
On Saturday, December 5 during the Bruins/Maple Leafs game beginning at 7:00 p.m., Sgt. Clint Schibner will be recognized in-game as the Boston Bruins Community Captain. Sgt Clint Schibner is the Greater Boston Toys for Tots Coordinator.  This is the Sgt Schibner's second year involved with Toys for Tots. As the coordinator, he has attended over 80 events and has established over 300 collection sites throughout Boston to collect toys to for Toys for Tots.

December 10: Mike Byrne
On Thursday, December 10 during the Bruins/Maple Leafs game, Mike Byrne of Danvers, MA will be recognized in-game as the Boston Bruins Community Captain. This holiday season, Mike Byrne hosted a party with friends and family and collected over 100 toys for the US Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program. In addition, Mike Byrne has helped kick-off the 2009-10 Bruins toy drive in a big way by working with Fulfillment America and the toy company eeBoo Toys to donate over 1,100 toys to Toys for Tots.

2ND ANNUAL BRUINS HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT: The B’s are returning to the Haverhill Valley Forum to host the second annual “Boston Bruins Holiday Tournament” from Sunday, December 27 through Wednesday, December 30. The event will feature Mite and Squirt squads playing in a minimum of three games over a four-day period. As an added bonus, each team will have the opportunity to win a team set of tickets to the 2010 NHL/Bridgestone Winter Classic between the Bruins and Flyers at Fenway Park on January 1, 2010.

BRUINS ON THE NHL LEADERBOARD:

-Patrice Bergeron currently ranks third overall in faceoffs won with 309 (S. Crosby, 353) and 6th in faceoff percentage at 58.3% (P. Gaustad, 63.6%).  Bergeron is also tied for first in shootout game deciding goals with 2.

-Tim Thomas is currently tied for first in shutouts with 3 along with five other goaltenders.
