Bruins Week Ahead, 10.29 - 11.05

by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins
THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD

OCTOBER 29 – NOVEMBER 5

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS:
STUART, WHEELER SUPPORT TROOPS: Mark Stuart and Blake Wheeler will each donate $5,000 worth of Bruins tickets to local military members and their families as part of Military Appreciation Night on November 15. The Bruins will honor local military members, veterans and their families throughout the Bruins/Devils game. Fans can learn how to contribute by visiting bostonbruins.com/military

MCGRATTAN JOINS P-BRUINS: Peter Chiarelli announced Friday that the club has assigned forward Brian McGrattan to the Providence Bruins for conditioning (American Hockey League). The P-Bruins have three games this weekend, with home games against Lowell (Friday, October 29) and Worcester (Sunday, October 31) and a road game in Worcester on Saturday, October 30. He will rejoin Boston on Monday, November 1. McGrattan has been a healthy scratch in Boston’s first seven games this year.

MILT SCHMIDT NIGHT A SUCCESS: The Bruins honored one of their all-time greatest on Thursday, Milt Schmidt. The only man in Bruins history to serve the club as player, captain, coach and General Manager, he has figured in four of the team's five Stanley Cups - as a player in 1939 and 1941 and as the team's GM in 1970 and 1972. The 92-year-old Schmidt had an exhibit in the New England Sports Museum (5th floor TD Garden) dedicated to him and participated in a special pregame ceremony which was attended by fellow Bruins legends Cam Neely, Ray Bourque, John Bucyk, Terry O’Reilly, and Bobby Orr.

One Bruins season ticket holder in particular enjoyed the festivities, Roger Naples of Revere. The 90-year-old Naples is the organization’s longest tenured season ticket holder, as he purchased his season tickets in 1938. It is believed that Naples is the only season ticket holder that was in the building Thursday night that watched Schmidt play in person.

BRUINS HOCKEY RULES: Bruins fans can write the next “Bruins Hockey Rule” for the popular “Bear” commercial series at BruinsHockeyRules.com. Fans can create, customize and script their own ending to the latest commercial. The winner will have their commercial shown on NESN and Garden HDX during the season and have the opportunity to meet the Bear. For more information and to write your own rule, visit the BruinsHockeyRules.com website.

“BIG BAD BRUINS SHOW” The Big Bad Bruins Show will air on Saturday, October 30 at 6:00 p.m. Hosted by Kathryn Tappen, the Original NESN Entertainment production will feature in-depth one-on-one conversations with Bruins players, a regular segment with Bruins President Cam Neely, and weekly reports from reporter Naoko Funayama.

THE STAT OF THE WEEK, COURTESY OF THE BRUINS WEEK AHEAD STAT MACHINE…
After his 2-0 shutout of the Leafs on Thursday, Tim Thomas has now won his first five starts of the season. The last Bruins goaltender to win his first five decisions was Tiny Thompson who began the year 6-0-0 in 1937-38.
