Bruins Week Ahead: 10/17 - 10/23

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS…

BRUINS TO HOST HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER NIGHT ON 10/21:
The Boston Bruins will host Hockey Fights Cancer Night on October 21 when they take on the Philadelphia Flyers. The Bruins will be supporting the cause in a variety of ways and many local pediatric and adult cancer patients will be invited to participate in Hockey Fights Cancer Night events and given tickets to the game.

Season ticket holders have kindly donated tickets for current pediatric patients, cancer survivors, and individuals who are supporters of those affected by cancer. Organizations who will be receiving tickets to the game include Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center, Jimmy Fund, American Cancer Society and Massachusetts General Hospital for Children.

Bruins players, management, and coaching staff will be supporting the initiative by wearing special lavender attire, decals on their helmets, and wrapping their sticks with lavender stick tape. To show their support, the Bruins will be wearing purple warm up jerseys on October 21st. The Boston Bruins Foundation will be raffling and auctioning off the team signed, warm-up worn purple jerseys both in game on 10/21 and online following the game. Proceeds from the 50/50 raffle will benefit the Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care.

Patrice Bergeron will host pediatric cancer patients through his program, Patrice’s Pals.

The Bruins will incorporate many in-game elements surrounding Hockey Fights Cancer. The 8-Spoked Salute, presented by Massachusetts State Lottery, will honor cancer survivor Kevin O’Brien. Many cancer survivors will be in attendance like recent Stoneham High School graduate Brandon McCarthy who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia after his freshman year of High School. Also the Boston Bruins Pan Mass Challenge Bike team will be presenting a check for over $180,000 during the first intermission of Wednesday's game. Bruins Foundation Executive Director Bob Sweeney, members of the PMC bike team, and Pan Mass Challenge representatives will be involved in the check presentation. Complete details regarding Hockey Fights Cancer Night will be announced at a later time.
 
PULLING FOR HOPE PLANE PULL: On Sunday, October 18, beginning at 10:00 a.m. the Boston Bruins will have a team taking part in the Pulling for Hope Boston Plane Pull to benefit the American Cancer Society.  The Boston Bruins team will include Bruins wives and girlfriends, the Bruins Ice Girls, local cancer survivors, and special guest Liam Fitzgerald (“the Fist-Bump Kid”). The Plane Pull features 25 teams of 20 people taking on a JetBlue airbus in a game of tug a war.  The goal is to be the fastest team to pull the plane 12 feet.  This is the inaugural event for the Pulling for Hope Plane Pull and will take place at Logan Airport.

NHL ANNOUNCES 2ND SEASON OF EPIX PRESENTS ROAD TO THE NHL WINTER CLASSIC: Premium TV network EPIX and the National Hockey League (NHL) today announced that EPIX Presents Road To the NHL Winter Classic™ will be returning to the channel and will make its U.S. television premiere Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 10pm ET/PT, 9C.  The weekly series, consisting of four one-hour episodes, will focus on the heated rivalry between the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens as they prepare for the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. on New Year’s Day 2016. This will be the second year that EPIX and the NHL® team up for this all-access look inside the lives of these elite professional athletes, their families and their fans. In addition, U.S. hockey fans will be able to stream each episode of EPIX Presents Road To the NHL Winter Classic live as it premieres on EPIX via EPIX.com and NHL.com.

NESN ANNOUNCES SARAH DAVIS AS 2015-16 RINK-SIDE REPORTER:
On October 7, NESN announced that Sarah Davis will serve at the network’s primary Boston Bruins rink-side reporter for the 2015-16 campaign, while Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley will be back together in the booth calling their 11th straight season together.  NESN also announced that Nikki Reyes is slated to fill in for Davis for select games, including Saturday’s game against the Arizona Coyotes in Glendale.

ECHOSTOR GOALS FOR CHARITY: For every goal the Bruins score during the 2015-16 season, EchoStor will donate $100 to the Boston Bruins Foundation. To date EchoStar has raised $1,300 for the Bruins Foundation.

RANDELL POTS FIRST NHL GOAL:  Bruins forward Tyler Randell recorded his first NHL goal in his first NHL game on October 14 against the Colorado Avalanche.  Randell is the first Bruin to score his first NHL goal in his first game since Blake Wheeler accomplished the same feat in 2008.

BOSTON BRUINS ALUMNI IN THE COMMUNITY:
On Saturday, October 24, Boston Bruins Alumni will be playing a benefit game against the Milton Youth Hockey Coaches.  The puck drops at 4:00 p.m. at the Max Ulin Memorial Rink in Milton (11 Unquity Rd, Milton, MA 02186).  Proceeds from the event will benefit Milton Youth Hockey.  Mark Cornforth, currently coaching at Catholic Memorial is expected to join the lineup which includes Andy Brickley and Bob Beers on defense, Ken Linseman and Rick Middleton as forwards, along with other members of the Bruins Alumni team.

BRUINS ON THE AIRWAVES:
Bruins defenseman Torey Krug has been confirmed as a weekly call-in guest with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Scott Zolak and Marc Bertrand  (Zo and Bertrand), which airs weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Adam McQuaid will be a regular guest on 100.7 WZLX with Kevin Karlson and Pete McKenzie (Karlson & McKenzie), which airs weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  Call-in days and times are dependent upon the B’s schedule.

PULLING FOR HOPE PLANE PULL
WHAT: On Sunday, October 18, beginning at 10:00 a.m. the Boston Bruins will have a team taking part in the Pulling for Hope Boston Plane Pull to benefit the American Cancer Society.  The Boston Bruins team will include Bruins wives and girlfriends, the Bruins Ice Girls, local cancer survivors, and special guest Liam Fitzgerald (“the Fist-Bump Kid”).
