THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS:


ISLES UP NEXT, THEN AVS IN MONDAY MATINEE: The Bruins will look to rebound from their 6-1 loss to the Ducks when they host the New York Islanders on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. (TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub). They will then play the Colorado Avalanche in a Columbus Day matinee at 1:00 p.m. (TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub). These two games are the final two in the team’s five-game homestand to open the season. Through the first three, the B’s have a 1-2 record.

HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER: The Black & Gold will support the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative through a number of ways before, during and after their game against the New York Islanders on Saturday, October 10 at the TD Garden. Members of the Bruins management team, coaching staff and players will be supporting the initiative by wearing special attire and decals on their equipment, while the organization will host a "Flashes of Hope" photo shoot and invite pediatric cancer patients to participate in a variety of in-game activities.  (100 Legends Way, Boston, MA 02114). B’S HOST FIRST EVER COACHING SYMPOSIUM: Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli, Head Coach Claude Julien and the Bruins coaching staff will share their expertise with coaches throughout New England at the first annual “Bruins Coaching Symposium” on Saturday, October 10 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. They will address a number of topics including developing team strategy, offensive zone tactics, defensive zone tactics, special teams, game-day preparation and strength and conditioning to approximately 500 USA Hockey certified New England youth hockey coaches.

FLASHES OF HOPE: The families of 20 children currently being treated for pediatric cancer throughout Boston will participate in a “Flashes of Hope” photo shoot at the TD Garden from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. “Flashes of Hope” is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating uplifting portraits of children fighting cancer and other life threatening illnesses. The portraits, will be taken by award-winning photographers, in an effort to help the children feel better about their changing appearance by celebrating it. After their photos are taken, the children and their families will take a tour of The Sports Museum at the TD Garden.

HIT THE ROAD: The Bruins will play their first two road games of the season next week, when they visit the Dallas Stars on Friday, October 16 and Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday, October 17.

BOSTONBRUINS.COM/MEDIA: The Bruins have launched a media-only section of their website, www.BostonBruins.com/media. This password-protected site, which will be updated by the Bruins Communications staff daily, will be the online home for all relevant Boston Bruins media information. Members of the media will have access to practice/media availability schedules, player/coach transcripts and downloadable video from press conferences that can be used for broadcast television. WHAT: Hockey Fights Cancer Night
The Boston Bruins will support the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative to raise money and awareness for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research on Saturday October, 10.  The Bruins will be inviting in local pediatric patients to enjoy the game and participate in various in-game experiences including Zamboni rides, bench assistants and Zebra Cares. Following the game, families will have the opportunity meet, get autographs and take photos with a number of current Bruins players. In addition, members of the Bruins organization will be showing their support by wearing lavender. Lavender, which represents awareness for all cancers, is the designated color for this year’s initiative. Boston Bruins coaches, broadcasters and team personnel will wear a commemorative Hockey Fights Cancer tie at games in October. The lavender tie features an embroidered Hockey Fights Cancer logo.

The Boston Bruins are participating in the annual Columbus Day Parade, beginning at 1 Center Plaza (Near City Hall Plaza) and will follow the parade route to Endicott St in Boston's North End.

WHAT: PASS Clinic
P.A.S.S. (Partnership to Assist Skaters and Shooters) is a 10 clinic series conducted by the Boston Bruins and sponsored by TD Bank. P.A.S.S. focuses on teaching youth hockey players between the ages of 8 and 12 basic hockey skills. All participants receive a P.A.S.S. jersey and a gift bag filled with an equipment bag tag, water bottle and two tickets for upcoming Bruins game. TD Bank also presents each hosting youth hockey organization with a $1000 donation.
