BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD

JANUARY 2 - JANUARY 8
FENWAY "CLASSIC" EDITION

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS:
LEGENDS CLASSIC WEATHER ALERT The Boston Bruins AT&T Legends Classic will take place today, regardless of this morning’s snowfall. Please see the schedule below for the day’s media availability.

WINTER CLASSIC CURSE? The good news? The last two teams to win the Winter Classic have gone on to make the Stanley Cup Finals. The bad? Both those teams lost. Pittsburgh defeated Buffalo 2-1 in the 2008 Winter Classic but lost in the Cup Finals to Detroit 4-2. Then, in 2009 the Red Wings defeated the Blackhawks 6-4 in 2009 but lost to Pittsburgh in the Cup Finals 4-3.

BLUESHIRTS, SENS, HAWKS UP NEXT: The Bruins will follow up Friday’s thrilling 2-1 overtime win at the Winter Classic with a two game road trip to New York and Ottawa on Monday and Tuesday. Monday’s game will be nationally televised on VERSUS. Both the Rangers and Senators are currently in the top eight in the conference, with New York holding down the eighth spot and the Senators currently in sixth. Tuesday will be Boston’s final visit to Ottawa in the 2009-10 regular season. The Black & Gold’s next home game will be when they host the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

FIVE BRUINS TO COMPETE IN THE OLYMPICS: Patrice Bergeron (Canada), Zdeno Chara (Slovakia), David Krejci (Czech Republic), Marco Sturm (Germany), and Tim Thomas (USA) were all named to their respective country’s Olympic rosters this past week.

THE STAT OF THE WEEK, COURTESY OF THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD STAT MACHINE:
Yesterday’s Winter Classic game winning goal sequence featured four players that will participate in the upcoming 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver. Team USA’s Tim Thomas started the sequence with a save, Slovakian Olympian Zdeno Chara began the breakout and fed Canadian Olympian Patrice Bergeron in the offensive zone who set up Germany’s Marco Sturm for the game winner.

THEY SAID IT…
Marco Sturm, after scoring the GWG in the 2010 Winter Classic…
“That’s something I dreamed of this morning, everybody did. It’s one of those memories for right now, that’s top of my list.”
