THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD

JANUARY 14 - JANUARY 21

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS...

HOMESTAND COMES TO A CLOSE: Winners of three straight, the Bruins continue their four-game homestand with afternoon matinee games on Saturday, January 15 against the Pittsburgh Penguins (1:00 p.m., TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub) and Monday, January 17 against the Carolina Hurricanes (1:00 p.m. TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub). These games are part of a stretch where the B’s are playing 11 games in 19 days through the NHL All-Star Break which begins after the B’s/Panthers contest on January 26.

FERENCE, LUCIC QUESTIONABLE FOR SATURDAY: During his post-practice press briefing with Boston media on Friday, Bruins head coach Claude Julien said that both Andrew Ference (upper-body) and Milan Lucic (undisclosed) were questionable for Saturday’s game against the Penguins. Both Ference and Lucic are considered day-to-day.

BERGY BY THE NUMBERS: No Bruin has been hotter than Patrice Bergeron of late. Here is a breakdown:

34: Points on the season, tops on the team
19: Points he has in his last 14 games on nine goals and 10 assists
5: Consecutive games with a point
10: Points during the five game streak on six goals and four assists
4: Consecutive multi-point games

FINISHING STRONG: The Bruins boast the NHL’s best goal differential during the third period at +31. They have outscored their opponents 55 to 24 in the third period this season.

B’S THE EAST’S BEST SINCE 12/1: No Eastern Conference team has accumulated more points than the Bruins since December 1, as the Black & Gold have racked up 29 points with a 12-4-5 record. They have only one regulation loss in their last 11 contests (7-1-3).

HOME AND HOME: The Bruins face only four home-and-home series this season. They will face their third of these sets Monday vs. the Hurricanes and Tuesday in Carolina. They are 1-1-0 in the first game and 2-0-0 in the second game of those series thus far this season (Oct. 9-10 vs. Phoenix and Oct. 19-21 vs. Washington). Their final home-and-home series will be vs. Detroit on Feb. 11 and 13.

ALL-STAR NODS: The National Hockey League announced this week that Bruins Zdeno Chara and Tim Thomas have been named to the 2011 NHL All-Star Game and rookie Tyler Seguin has been selected as one of 12 NHL rookies to participate in the Honda SuperSkills competition. The All-Star festivities will take place Saturday, January 29 and Sunday, January 30 in Raleigh, NC. Rookie defenseman Steven Kampfer was named to the Eastern Conference All-Star squad in the American Hockey League today. Kampfer had three goals, 13 assists and a team-high +10 rating in 20 games for the P-Bruins this season. He is the lone Bruins prospect selected for the AHL All-Star game.

BRUINS FOUNDATION TO HOST CASINO NIGHT ON 2/20: The Boston Bruins Foundation will host the first "Boston Bruins Casino Night" presented by TD Bank on Sunday, February 20 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at The Westin Copley Hotel (10 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02116). Bruins fans will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to play Craps, Double Roulette, Blackjack, Texas Hold 'Em, and Wheel of Fortune.

51 AND COUNTING… After Thursday’s capacity crowd at the Garden, the Bruins have now soldout 51 straight games (regular season and postseason, does not include Winter Classic at Fenway or 2010 Premiere Game in Prague). The Bruins sold out every regular and postseason game during the 2010 calendar year, the first time the organization has done so since the 1972 calendar year.

2ND NEELY SK8 ANNOUNCED: Beginning the weekend of February 4 and continuing throughout the month, the Boston Bruins Foundation and The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care are hosting the second annual "Neely SK8 Challenge" skate-a-thon presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance. The Neely SK8 Challenge helps raise funds for children and their families who are battling cancer.

Bruins fans of all ages can register to skate at one of the five FMC participating rinks.  Each skate date will be a private Neely SK8 event. Skaters can create a personalized fundraising page for family and friends to make a pledge and follow participants’ fundraising progress by visiting www.neelysk8.com. Last year, skaters raised more than $130,000.

BRUINS PROSPECT REPORT: The Bruins Communications Staff has created the Boston Bruins Prospect Report, which will be emailed out every two weeks. The Report will contain updated statistical information, news and notes on all players in the Bruins system, as well as a “Prospect Spotlight” section that will highlight two players in a feature article format. The next report will be sent January 15 and feature P-Bruins center Zach Hamill and BU defenseman David Warsofsky.
