BOSTON - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, March 26, that the team has signed forward Paul Carey to a two-year, two-way contract extension through the 2020-21 season with an annual NHL cap hit of $700,000.

Carey has skated in two games with Boston this season. He was acquired by the Bruins from Ottawa in exchange for defenseman Cody Goloubef on January 11, 2019. Since arriving in Providence, he leads the team with 16 goals and seven assists for 23 points in 23 games. He has also skated in five games with Ottawa this season, as well as 29 games with AHL affiliate Belleville, where he has tallied five goals and 22 assists for 27 points.
Over his six-year NHL career with Ottawa, New York, Washington and Colorado, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward has amassed eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 99 appearances. At the AHL level with Belleville, Hershey, Providence and Lake Erie, the 30-year-old forward has posted 100 goals and 132 assists for 232 points in 339 games.
The Boston, Massachusetts native was originally selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the fifth round (135th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Sweeney also announced that defenseman Victor Berglund has joined the Providence Bruins on a Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO).
Berglund has skated in 50 games with MODO Hockey of the Swedish League (Allsvenskan) in 2018-19, tallying four goals and nine assists for 13 points with a plus-six rating.
He began 2017-2018 with MODO Hockey J20 of SuperElit and led the team's defense with 18 points (10 goals, eight assists) while he earned a plus-six rating. He was a plus-two in six playoff games, and he added two goals and an assist for three points. The 19-year-old skated in 37 games for MODO Hockey of Allsvenskan, scoring one goal and adding six assists for seven points. In 2016-2017, Berglund appeared in 37 games for MODO Hockey J20 and recorded five goals and 10 assists for 15 points and had a plus-14 rating. The 6-foot, 170-pound defenseman accumulated five goals and five assists for 10 points in 19 games for MODO Hockey J18 of the J18 Elit in 2015-2016 while earning a plus-27 rating.
The Ornskoldsvik, Sweden native was selected by Boston in the seventh round (195th overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
