BOSTON -Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, May 10, that the team has signed defenseman Mason Lohrei to a two-year entry-level contract beginning with the 2023-24 season with an annual NHL cap hit of $925,000.

Lohrei, 22, appeared in five AHL games with the Providence Bruins in 2022-23, tallying one assist.

Prior to signing his ATO with the Providence Bruins, Lohrei helped lead Ohio State to an appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2022-23, ranking first among the team's defensemen in scoring with four goals and 28 assists for 32 points in 40 games. As a freshman in 2021-22, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound blueliner led Ohio State's defense in scoring with four goals and 25 assists for 29 points in 31 NCAA appearances.

Before joining the NCAA ranks at Ohio State, Lohrei played three seasons in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers from 2018-21. In his final season in Green Bay in 2020-21, Lohrei led all USHL defenseman and ranked sixth in the league in scoring after posting 19 goals and 40 assists for 59 points in 48 games.

The Verona, Wisconsin native was originally selected by Boston in the second round (58th overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
