BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, June 26th, that the team has made three selections in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft held at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. They selected defenseman Jakub Zboril as their first selection with the 13th overall pick which was acquired from Los Angeles earlier today in a trade for Milan Lucic; forward Jake DeBrusk as their second selection, 14th overall, which was their own selection; and forward Zachary Senyshyn with their third pick in the 15th overall slot, which had been acquired from Calgary earlier today in a trade for Dougie Hamilton. This marked the first time in Entry Draft history that a team has had three consecutive first round selections.
Zboril, 18, is a native of Brno, Czech Republic, and played last season in Saint John of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He finished third among league rookie defensemen in scoring with 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points and 73 penalty minutes in 44 games and set the club record for goals by a rookie defenseman (previously five). He was named to the QMJHL All-Rookie Team at the end of the season.
The 6”1”, 184 lb. blueliner is a left shot who played the 2013-14 season with his hometown HC Kometa Brno junior team where he had 5-16=21 totals and 57 PIM in 36 games. He has twice represented the Czech Republic in international play, winning Silver medals each at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament (4-2=6 totals in five games) and the 2014 U-18 World Junior Championship (0-3=3 in seven games).
DeBrusk, 18, is a native of Edmonton, Alberta, and has played last two seasons of junior hockey in Swift Current of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He led the Broncos and tied for sixth overall in the WHL with 42 goals and also led his team in scoring, adding 39 assists for 81 points in 72 games.
The 6”0”, 174 lb. forward is a left shot who has 57 goals and 63 assists for 120 points with 61 penalty minutes in 144 career regular season games and added 3-1=4 totals with ten PIM in nine career playoff contests.
DeBrusk’s father Louie played 401 NHL games with Edmonton, Tampa Bay, Phoenix and Chicago in a 12-year career from 1991-2003.
Senyshyn, 18, is a native of Nepean, Ontario, and played last season in Sault Ste. Marie of the Ontario Hockey League with 26 goals and 19 assists for 45 points in 66 games.
The 6”1”, 192 lb. forward is a right shot who played most of the 2013-14 season with the Smiths Falls Bears of the CJHL where he had 22 goals and 10 assists for 32 points in 57 games. He also played four games in Sault Ste. Marie that season with 1-1=2 totals for the Greyhounds.
