Bruins Reduce Training Camp Roster

by Caryn Switaj / Boston Bruins

BostonBruins.com - The Bruins were off on Wednesday, following Tuesday night's preseason game against the New York Islanders at TD Garden. With the regular season now just one week away, the club's roster has again been reduced.

General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced on Wednesday that forwards Ryan Spooner, Justin Florek and Alex Khokhlachev have been released from Boston's training camp, along with goalie Jeremy Smith. The three forwards will join Providence's training camp right away, while Smith is set to join, assuming he clears waivers.

With roster battles ongoing, Chiarelli, Head Coach Claude Julien and the rest of the Bruins' brass still have more decisions to make before the season opens on October 8.

David Pastrnak, who is progressing well from the shoulder injury he sustained on the second day of camp, remains with the team. He has starting taking contact in practices, and the goal is to hopefully get the winger into a preseason game so he can have an opportunity to see where he fits in at the NHL level and with the Bruins.

The Black & Gold have two preseason tilts remaining, first on Friday in Bridgeport, Conn. against the Islanders, and then on Saturday at TD Garden against the Detroit Red Wings.

Below are the players still on Boston's training camp roster, as of October 1.

Forwards: Milan Lucic, David Krejci, Loui Eriksson, Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, Simon Gagne, Chris Kelly, Carl Soderberg, Matt Fraser, Daniel Paille, Craig Cunningham, Jordan Caron, Reilly Smith, David Pastrnak, Bobby Robins

Defensemen: Zdeno Chara, Dougie Hamilton, Dennis Seidenberg, Johnny Boychuk, Torey Krug, Adam McQuaid, Matt Bartkowski, Kevan Miller, David Warsofsky

Goalies: Tuukka Rask, Niklas Svedberg, Malcolm Subban

Injured/not skating: Gregory Campbell (mid-core), Anthony Camara (illness)

The Bruins return to the ice for practice on Thursday morning at TD Garden.
