The Boston Bruins have recalled center Nate Thompson from their AHL affiliate in Providence, it was announced today by Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli. This is the first recall to Boston of his pro career and he will play his first NHL game tonight when the Bruins host the Buffalo Sabres in a 7:00 p.m. game at TD Banknorth Garden.
Thompson, 22, is in his second full professional season after playing four years of junior hockey in Seattle of the Western Hockey League. The 6’0”, 190 lb. native of Anchorage, Alaska was drafted by the Bruins as their eighth pick, 183rd overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and played his first full pro season in Providence in 2005-06.
He was assigned to Providence from Boston’s training camp on September 25th and has one assist with seven penalty minutes in the first four games of the AHL Bruins’ season.
