Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced the next round of cuts from Boston's training camp on Friday afternoon, releasing the following nine players:
Anthony Camara, Alex Fallstrom, Rob Flick, Seth Griffith, Alexander Khokhlachev, Jared KnightDEFENSEMEN:
Chris Casto, Tommy Cross, Joe Morrow
All nine players will join the Providence Bruins training camp, which begins on Monday in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. They join six other players who were first cut from Boston's main camp on Wednesday, September 18. Included in that group was Scott Campbell, Jack Downing, Steven Spinell and Ben Youds (all invites to Boston's training camp), along with Tyler Randell and netminder Adam Morrison.
Campbell, Spinell, Youds, Randell, Griffith and Morrison did not get into any preseason games before being released. GM Peter Chairelli expressed that it was tough not to give them that opporunity, though they were able to evaluate them during practices.
A total of 15 players have now been cut from the initial 51-player camp roster. The B's have played in three of their seven preseason games, with the next one slated for Saturday, September 21, in Detroit.
"We’re not there yet, where we're close to our whole team," Head Coach Claude Julien said on Friday, acknowledging that another round of players were going to be released, but also stressing that the club will still be putting a mix of veterans and young players in their preseason lineups.
"We’ve still got to look at some players, but there are a little bit more [veterans] going in all of the time and so that’s what it's going to be for [Saturday]."
Here's the group of 36 players who still remain with the big club (22 forwards, 11 defensemen, 4 goalies):
FORWARDS: Patrice Bergeron, Gregory Campbell, Carter Camper, Jordan Caron, Craig Cunningham, Loui Eriksson, Justin Florek, Matt Fraser, Jarome Iginla, Nick Johnson, Chris Kelly, David Krejci, Matt Lindblad, Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, Daniel Paille, Bobby Robins, Reilly Smith, Carl Söderberg, Ryan Spooner, Shawn Thornton

GOALTENDERS: Chad Johnson, Tuukka Rask, Malcolm Subban, Niklas Svedberg
Preseason Evalutation Tool
Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli and his management team meet with the players before they're released. For the past week, the B's brass has evaluted them during physical testing, practices and games, and they use that as a development tool down the road, assessing the organization's depth.
"We have to look at players and kind of see who’s ready for this level, and who’s close to it anyways, and there’s going to be some injuries, there’s going to be some call-ups, so you look at some of these players," said Julien.
"And not only that, but during the season, sometimes you make trades and you’ve got to bring some guys up and there’s all kinds of things that can happen."
"You saw this year with the cap issues. We had to move some guys and we got some guys back but it’s still opened some spots for others. You’ve got to make sure you have a good read on all of you’re players in your organization, who are deserving of being looked at and ready with the experience and what they’ve accomplished."
