Okay. With practice at noon today, I was able to sleep for an extra hour and I got into the Garden pretty late this morning after leaving shortly after midnight. And I’ve been digging out of the rubble that used to be my desk, trying to find the box score from last night, and I finally found it.
In the tornado that was the last 20 minutes of last night’s game, I pretty much trashed my working space. And as I look at the stats, I really wish that the game ended at 18:24 of the third with Our Boys up 4-3.
I really, really wish that Kotalik had missed (twice).
But he didn’t, and today we are all, understandably, bummed after the last few minutes of the third period. We’re all human, after all. And we want the Bruins to win so badly, it’s not easy when they go down like they did.
Thankfully, there is not much time to mope, what with practice today and the Lightning coming in tomorrow.
Anyway, here is some reaction from the coach and players last night:
“That’s the nature of this game. I don’t look at it [as being a problem with the youth on the team]. Veterans made some awful mistakes also…It was a case of not getting the puck out when you had a chance to get it out and the reaction after that. But that’s a secondary problem. The primary problem is [that] we didn’t pay the price to get the puck out, a couple of times. When I say that, it’s just getting it out, getting the job done. You either get the job done or you don’t get the job done. And we did not get the job done.”Head Coach, Dave Lewis, on the Buffalo game
“I don’t think we were sitting back…we ended up chasing the puck a lot and they got a hold of those pucks and they scored on those [chances]. We should prevent those…it’s definitely a tough way to lose like that…we earned a point, but it could have been two…it’s always tough when you are leading the whole game and in the end the [other] team puts pressure on you and you are protecting the lead. We’ve got to learn to be more poised and patient with those times. We made some mistakes in our zone and didn’t get those pucks out. When you make one, two, three mistakes in a row, usually that is not good. That’s how they earned…two points.”Captain, Zdeno Chara, after the Sabres game
“Going up 4-1 against a team like that, and as well as we played in the first 52 minutes, it’s unacceptable. We have to have a killer mentality and go out there and play tough for the final eight minutes and we didn’t do that…we don’t have the killer instinct right now and we have to develop that. This is the third game where we have lost the lead late. St. Louis, Montreal and [Buffalo] and we can’t have that. If we want to be a playoff team, we have to win in the crunch time, like the final eight minutes of the game, when you are up. It’s totally unacceptable and you can’t have it [happen].”Defenseman, Paul Mara, commenting on the loss of the three goal lead
