Bruins Hold Optional Pregame Skate Before Game 1; Paille Hits the Ice

by Caryn Switaj / Boston Bruins

BOSTON, MA - In preparation for their Game 1 matchup with the Red Wings on Friday night, the Bruins held an optional pregame skate at TD Garden.

With a day off and four days of practice this week, filled with plenty of video and drills, the Bruins are more than ready for the puck to drop. So are the Red Wings.

Top guns like Zdeno Chara, Tuukka Rask, David Krejci, Milan Lucic and Jarome Iginla did not hit the ice. Chris Kelly, Daniel Paille and Matt Bartkowski have not skated with the group all week.

"No updates on those guys," Bruins Head Coach Claude Julien said during Friday's pregame media availability, when asked about Paille and Kelly.

The Bruins' bench boss later added that Paille had hit the ice before the group for the first time this week. "He skated this morning on his own," said Julien.

If Paille and Kelly are not in the lineup on Friday night, Justin Florek and Jordan Caron are the bodies likely sliding in on the third and fourth lines.

It would mark Florek's first career game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, after making his NHL debut and suiting up in four regular season games with Boston this season.

If Bartkowski is not able to suit up, Andrej Meszaros would likely slide in on defense, paired with either Johnny Boychuk or Kevan Miller. It all depends on matchups, though, and the Bruins will likely rotate their defense pairs throughout the game. Corey Potter is also an available option to slot in on the back end.
