Kim Jacobs, wife of Boston Bruins and Delaware North Companies Executive Vice President, Charlie Jacobs, is again captaining this year’s Bruins Foundation PMC bike team. Also riding for the Bruins team will be Bruins Vice President of Business Operations, Dan Zimmer, Bruins Director of Hockey Operations and Player Development and former defenseman, Don Sweeney, and Director of Development for the Boston Bruins Foundation and former center, Bob Sweeney.
In addition, 22 other riders, including former Bruins legend Terry O’Reilly, WAAF radio personality and former Bruin, Lyndon Byers, and NESN reporter Rob Simpson make up the Bruins Foundation’s 26-person squad.
The team will ride in memory of their 2006 pedal partner, Jeff Hayes. Hayes was paired with the Bruins last year on the team’s inaugural ride in the PMC. Sadly, he lost his battle against Ewing's Sarcoma and passed away in January. Hayes was a star defenseman for the Sandwich High School Hockey Team before he was diagnosed.
Jeff’s mother, Susan Hayes, will also be riding on this year’s Bike Team to honor her son and raise much needed funds for cancer research.
“I am very excited to ride on this year’s team,” said Hayes who will be riding in her first PMC. “Being involved with Jeff last year was amazing; it really is inspiring to see how dedicated this team is to completing the ride and hitting their fundraising goals. I am honored to ride alongside them in support.”
The PMC is a 192-mile bike-a-thon which will take place this year on August 4th and 5th. The event draws 4,000 cyclists from 30 states and six countries to ride on eight routes through 43 cities and towns across Massachusetts to raise millions for cancer research and treatment. The PMC has donated more than $145 million to the Jimmy Fund since its inception in 1980. Last year, the PMC gave 99 cents of every rider-raised dollar directly to the Jimmy Fund.
