Boston, MA --
On Tuesday night, March 24th, 700 people packed Boston’s Hard Rock Café for the release of The Original Six: History of the Boston Bruins
In addition to getting a sneak preview of the complete video history of the Black & Gold, guests were able to meet the entire Bruins roster, talk to many members of the B’s alumni, as well as bid on live and silent auctions to benefit the Bruins Foundation and the Ellis Memorial & Eldredge House.
“It was a great night,” said Bob Sweeney, Director of Development for the Boston Bruins Foundation. “On top of a great group of alumni and the current team, the management, and the coaches, I think we had some great auction items, a lot of great food and a lot of fun, as well.”
The Bruins players, alumni, coaching staff and management walked the red carpet to kick-off the festivities at 5:30 p.m. and a cocktail reception took place shortly thereafter. Meanwhile, former Bruins Gord Kluzak and Andrew Brickley served as the evening’s hosts and conducted a Q & A session with Bruins alumni like Milt Schmidt and Ray Bourque, and talked about being a current Bruins player with Patrice Bergeron
and Zdeno Chara
“There’s been so much history with the Bruins and so many great players, the DVD is an excellent thing,” said Chara. “There’s only six teams that are the ‘Original Six’ teams, and anytime you can interact with the former players -- and a lot of Hall of Famers -- it’s not something that you can find anywhere else.
“For sure, it’s not really an everyday thing to interact with these guys, so it’s great to enjoy these kind of events.”
In addition to the live auction, a variety of items such as gift certificates to some of Boston’s best restaurants, citywide destination packages, and autographed Bruins memorabilia, were up for bid as part of the silent auction.
“I thought this was a unique opportunity,” said Sweeney of the evening. “The NHL chose the Bruins to have a history of their team made and I think it’s so fitting.
“We have so many prominent alumni that are still in the area, and with the way the current team is playing, it couldn’t happen at a better time.“The team is at the top of the Eastern Conference…and we are looking forward to a long playoff run,” he said.
Former Bruins captain, coach and general manager, Milt Schmidt agreed.
“This is a great idea,” said Schmidt. “This is an evening of fun and laughs and togetherness.
“It’s a wonderful event.”
The release of The Original Six: History of the Boston Bruins DVD offers Boston Bruins fans something they can cherish for a lifetime. The collector's DVD is loaded with unforgettable moments, legendary players reactions and interviews, championship triumphs, and spectacular goals and saves through the past 85 years.
