Bruins Assign Peter Cehlarik To Providence

21-year-old notched his first two career NHL points with two assists in Sunday's 4-0 win

BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, February 13, that the team has assigned forward Peter Cehlarik to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Cehlarik, 21, who is in his first professional season with the Bruins organization in 2016-17, made his NHL debut in the team's 4-3 win vs. Vancouver on February 11. He notched his first two career NHL points with two assists in the Bruins' 4-0 win vs. Montreal on February 12. Cehlarik has also skated in 40 games with Providence, recording 18 goals (first on team, ninth in AHL) and 15 assists for 33 points (second on team) with a plus-nine rating. The 6-foot-2, 202-pound forward also leads the AHL with four shootout goals (six attempts). 

Prior to signing with the Bruins, Cehlarik played with Lulea HF in the Swedish Hockey League in 2015-16, tallying a career-high 11 goals and 20 points with a plus-seven rating in 46 games. He also skated in 11 playoff games, posting three goals and two assists for five points. Cehlarik appeared in 132 career games with Lulea HF, recording 22 goals and 27 assists for 49 points. He has also played 25 playoff games for the Swedish club, totaling five goals and three assists for eight points. In 2013-14, Cehlarik skated in 18 games for Asploven HC in the Swedish 1st Division, notching five goals and eight assists for 13 points. 

On the international stage, Cehlarik has represented Slovakia at the 2013 Under-18 World Junior Championships, the Under-20 World Junior Championships in 2014 and 2015, as well as the 2016 IIHF World Championships. In 23 career international games in those tournaments, he totaled five goals and nine assists for 14 points.

The Zilina, Slovakia native was originally selected by the Bruins in the third round (90 overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
