BOSTON, MA – Bruins fans are invited to "Grow One for Boston" by growing their own playoff beard in the annual Bruins 'Beard-A-Thon' for the duration of the team's 2013 Stanley Cup playoff run. Beard growers will raise money for the Boston Bruins Foundation to benefit The One Fund Boston. All proceeds from the 2013 Bruins Beard-A-Thon (minus credit card transaction fees that are typically between 1.5%-3%) will be donated on behalf of the Boston Bruins Foundation directly to The One Fund Boston, Inc.
The One Fund Boston, Inc. is a centralized fund formed by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino to help the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013.
The hockey playoff beard is an age-old tradition for players participating in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Fans can join in on the tradition by "Growing One for Boston" and inviting family, friends and business associates to make a pledge towards their playoff beards.
Fans can create their own Bruins 'Beard-A-Thon' profile by uploading their photo at www.beardathon.com/bruins. Participants can choose to grow their own beard and update their growth throughout the playoffs or they can grow their beard virtually by choosing the 'Build-A-Beard' option, giving women and children an opportunity to get involved.
Beard growers may pledge themselves by making a donation; friends and family can also support their efforts at anytime by making a one-time pledge (minimum $10.)
Since 2009, the Boston Bruins 'Beard-A-Thon' has raised nearly $200,000 for the Boston Bruins Foundation and in four post seasons, 22,000 fans have raised more than $2 Million for NHL team charities through the 'Beard-A-Thon’ initiative.'
