Boston, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, March 2, that the Bruins have acquired forwards Maxime Talbot and Paul Carey from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for forward Jordan Caron and the Bruins sixth round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Chiarelli also announced that the Bruins have acquired forward Zack Phillips from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Jared Knight.
Chiarelli will hold his annual trade deadline day media availability at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2 in the Will McDonough Press Room at TD Garden. Media can enter TD Garden using the TD Garden back security entrance, media workspace will be available in the Will McDonough workroom.
Talbot has appeared in 63 games with Colorado this season, tallying five goals and 10 assists for 15 points. In his NHL career, Talbot has competed in 648 NHL games, racking up 89 goals and 105 assists for 194 points. In 83 NHL postseason games, the 5'11'', 190-pound centerman has notched 18 goals and 21 assists for 39 points.
Talbot, 31, has played with three NHL teams previously: 388 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins (2006-11), 127 games with the Philadelphia Flyers (2011-13) and 133 games with the Colorado Avalanche (2013-15). Talbot won a Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, scoring two goals in the deciding Game Seven win.
The Lemoyne, QC native was drafted by Pittsburgh in eighth round (234th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Carey, 26, has played in 10 games for Colorado this season, recording one assist. The Boston, MA product has appeared in 22 NHL games, all with the Avalanche. In 171 games at the AHL level with the Lake Erie Monsters, the forward accrued 40-49=89 totals.
Prior to his time in the Colorado organization, Carey was a member of the Boston College Eagles, where he appeared in 147 NCAA games, posting 45 goals and 41 assists. Carey won two National Championships while with BC in 2010 and 2012 and was named to the NCAA all tournament team in 2012.
Carey was drafted by Colorado in the fifth round (135th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Phillips has played in 49 games for the Iowa Wild (American Hockey League) this season, recording seven goals and eight assists. The forward has appeared in 196 games at the AHL level in the Minnesota organization from 2012-15 where the 22-year-old has accrued 27 goals and 48 assists for 75 points.
The 6'1'', 178-pound native of Fredericton, NB was drafted in the first round (28th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild.
Caron has appeared in 134 games with Boston from 2010 to 2015, notching 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points. This season, Caron has skated in 11 games with 16 penalty minutes. The Bruins drafted Caron in the first round (25th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Knight has appeared in 107 games with the Providence Bruins from 2010 to 2015, notching seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points. The Bruins drafted Knight in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
