BOSTON, MA – The Boston Bruins announced the launch of “The Bear & the Gang” animated shorts which will premiere on the organization’s new children’s television series “Bruins Academy” on Sunday, December 20 at 3:30 PM on NESN as well as online at BearShorts.com and across the Bruins social channels. “The Bear & the Gang” animated shorts are created by Arnold Worldwide and animated by award-winning illustrator J.J. Sedelmaier.
Sedelmaier, most famously known for his “TV Funhouse” animated work on “Saturday Night Live”, “Beavis and Butthead,” and “Adult Swim,” created the series in the single-cell animated styling of legendary shows like “Scooby-Doo,” “The Flintstones,” and “The Jetsons,” evoking a fun, child-like feeling of classic Saturday morning cartoon shows. The animated shorts feature cameos and voiceover by Bruins players like Captain Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, Tuukka Rask, David Pastrnak and Bruins anthem singer Rene Rancourt.
Previous films in the “The Bear & the Gang” campaign were made in the form of a live-action, 1980s sitcom, but with Sedelmaier at the animation helm, the Bear, Bruins players and other characters are put in a series of strange and humorous adventures in this collection of episodes – from Marchand making a poorly constructed homemade robot and Rask bringing two falcons into the locker room, to the Bruins Cop offering practical life advice at the end of each spot.
The first minute long episode of “The Bear & the Gang” animated shorts will air during the “Bruins Academy” premiere on Sunday, December 20 at 3:30 PM on NESN. The episode will show the trials and tribulations the animated Bruins cartoons encounter at Space Camp. The remaining minute long episodes will air on upcoming episodes of “Bruins Academy” as well as online at BearShorts.com and across the Bruins social channels.
