Brad Marchand Named To Team Canada's World Cup Of Hockey Roster

by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins
BOSTON, MA – The National Hockey League announced today, May 27, the final rosters for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, and Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand was selected to compete for Team Canada.

Marchand will be available on a conference call on Friday, May 27 at 7:15 p.m. ET. Call in details can be found below. The Bruins Communications Staff will provide a transcript of the call and an audio archive on the team's media website shortly after the call concludes.

Marchand’s selection will reunite him with Bruins teammate Patrice Bergeron, who was named to Team Canada’s preliminary roster on March 2. Zdeno Chara (Team Europe), Loui Eriksson (Team Sweden), David Krejci (Team Czech Republic), David Pastrnak (Team Czech Republic), Dennis Seidenberg (Team Europe) and Tuukka Rask (Team Finland) will also represent the Bruins at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, which will take place from Sept. 17 to Oct. 1, 2016 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, home of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. The two-week tournament, featuring eight teams comprised of more than 150 of the best players in the NHL, will progress from the Preliminary Round to the Semifinals and ultimately the Final.

This is the fifth time Marchand has been selected to compete for his home country in international play. The 5-foot-9, 181-pound forward tallied four goals and three assists in 10 games as he helped Canada earn a gold medal at the 2016 IIHF Men’s World Championships, held earlier this month in Russia. Marchand previously won gold with Team Canada at the IIHF World U-20 Championships in 2007 and 2008. He also earned a bronze medal with Team Canada Atlantic at the 2005 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.

Marchand, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, established career-highs in goals (37) and points (60) with the Bruins in 2015-16. His 37 goals ranked sixth in the NHL and were the most by a Bruins player since Glen Murray (44) in 2002-03. The 28-year-old is a veteran of seven NHL seasons – all with the Bruins – and was originally selected by Boston in the third round (71st overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
