BRAD MARCHAND NAMED NHL “THIRD STAR” OF THE WEEK ENDING FEBRUARY 14
BOSTON, MA – The NHL announced today, February 15, that Brad Marchand has been named the NHL’s “Third Star” for the week ending February 14. Pavel Datsyuk (Detroit) and Henrik Lundqvist (New York) were named first and second stars of the week, respectively.
During the past week Marchand has recorded seven points (4-3=7) in four games and continued his goal streak to seven games. Marchand notched a goal against the Los Angeles Kings on 2/9, a goal and two assists in Winnipeg on 2/11, a shorthanded goal in Minnesota on 2/13 and a goal and a shorthanded assist in Detroit on 2/14 (he now leads the NHL in shorthanded points with six). Marchand’s goal at :08 into the game vs. Detroit broke the Bruins record for the fastest goal scored from the start of the game in Bruins history (previous record was :09 for Fleming Mackell set in 1953). The 27-year-old Nova Scotia native increased his season points total to 28-15=43 total points in 51 games played. Marchand’s 28 goals on the year match a career-high which he established during the 2011-12 season.
