Marchand Has A Blast on Latest Episode of BTB

Winger talks about affinity for pizza, Ninja Turtles, and Claude

by Eric Russo @NHLBruins / Boston Bruins

BostonBruins.com - Now we know exactly what Brad Marchand likes to do following a Bruins victory: find some pizza.

As seen on the latest episode of Behind the B, Marchand strolled down the tunnel after the Bruins victory in Winnipeg earlier this season wondering just where all the pies were. His latest shenanigans caught fire on social media after the episode aired.

"I think it's something that we all look forward to after the game," said Marchand. "I remember that, Winnipeg has a pretty good 'za' and I really wanted a piece. It tastes way better after a win.

"You might have a bite or two after a loss…you're pretty upset. But after a win, guys are carrying a box around. I was excited to get in there and pick away at it."

Maybe his love for pizza stems from his affinity for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The turtles, of course, like them some 'za' from time to time, too.

"They go hand in hand - minus the anchovies," said Marchand, who is a huge TMNT fan.

"I love them," he said. "I have a bunch of shirts, hats, I got glasses, action figures, cups. I've got everything. I love it, I'm obsessed."

Marchand's favorite Ninja Turtle is Leonardo. But, unfortunately for BM63, it was teammate Torey Krug who got to dress up as Leo during the Bruins' annual Halloween hospital visit.

"If it was up to me, I would have been Leo," said Marchand. "He was my childhood idol my whole life, I don't care if he was real or not. I was really excited that Torey got to be him."

The Bruins winger had a costume that is, perhaps, a bit more fitting for his personality.

"When they told us that we were going to do the Ninja Turtle theme I didn't even have a choice. They just told me I was going to be Splinter [the Rat]," said Marchand.

"Deep down I think I'm a lovable guy. I'm not always a rat. Sometimes it just comes out. Maybe playing around and having fun is considered being a rat…I guess I'm a rat."

Claude Julien thought Marchand was living up to that moniker during the game against Winnipeg. Marchand was shouting from the bench and the Bruins bench boss thought the yelling was aimed towards the officials.

"I would never do that," said Marchand. "We're all friends, me and the refs. But that sequence, that happens at least two or three times a game where I'm yelling at someone and Claude's yelling at me.

"You can even see he's laughing there, he just knows I get a little carried away some times."

Marchand and Julien have been together since Marchand broke into the league in 2009. The two have developed a strong understanding of each other during that time.

"It's been built over a number of years now," said Marchand. "Claude knows me very well and I know him. He knows that I get carried away at times.

"He's to the point now where he knows when to pull me aside and have a chat with me. On the bench sometimes, you're a little heated and yelling at people.

"He gets heated and yells at me. I can take it and we have fun with it."

Marchand wasn't the only one having fun in the latest episode of BTB. Injured forward Frank Vatrano joined Ryan Spooner and Colin Miller in the photo booth at the team's family barbecue ahead of the season opener.

Vatrano, no doubt, is hoping to be back on the ice soon.
