BOSTON, MA --
The National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara
has been named to the Eastern Conference Roster for the 2007 NHL All-Star Game which will be held on Wednesday, January 24 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas (8 p.m. ET, VERSUS, NHL Radio).
The NHL also announced today that rookie center Phil Kessel was named to the Eastern Conference roster for the NHL YoungStars Game presented by Upper Deck, on Tuesday, January 23 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas (7:30 p.m. ET, VERSUS, NHL Radio).
Chara, who was signed by the Bruins as a free agent on July 1, 2006, has played in 40 games for Boston this year, scoring eight goals and tallying 18 assists. This is his second appearance in an NHL All-Star game, as he was also on the Eastern Conference squad for the 2003 All-Star game.
Chara was one of 15 players who were added to the Eastern Conference team today. The group of 15 additional players will join the six players that were voted starters for the All-Star game by the fans, to complete the roster for the Eastern Conference. The additional players announced today were selected by the NHL’s Hockey Operations Department, after consultation with League General Managers.
Kessel, 19, joins 10 other young players to complete the Eastern Conference squad. The Madison, Wisconsin native was Boston’s first pick (fifth overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in 30 games for the Bruins this season, scoring five goals and recording four assists.
The players named to the YoungStars Game were selected by the NHL’s Hockey Operations Department, in consultation with League General Managers.
The Black and Gold return to the TD Banknorth Garden on Monday afternoon when they host the Buffalo Sabres in a matinee game at 1:00 p.m. ET.
