Boston Bruins Week Ahead

by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins

UPCOMING GAMES: The Bruins will have two home games before embarking on their longest road trip of the season, a six-game, 11-day sojourn through Montreal, Winnipeg, Minnesota, St. Louis, Buffalo and Ottawa. Nashville is up next however on Saturday during an afternoon matinee tilt at the TD Garden. The Preds are fifth overall in the Western Conference with 69 points. After winning 10 of 11 in the month of January, Nashville has lost three of their last four to start the month of February.

Boston hosts the New York Rangers on Valentine’s Day in the second game between the top two teams in the East this season. New York captured the first meeting with a 3-2 overtime win back on January 21 in Boston.

After the game with the Rangers, the Bruins will head to Montreal to begin the six game road trip.

Jack Edwards, Andy Brickley and Naoko Funayama will call three of the four games next week on NESN while the NBC Sports Network will televise the game on Wednesday against Montreal. The tandem of Dave Goucher and Bob Beers will handle all radio duties on 98.5 The Sports Hub. Start times for next week’s games are as follows:

2/11 vs. NSH, 1:00 p.m. ET
2/14 vs. NYR, 7:00 p.m. ET
2/15 at MTL, 7:30 p.m. ET
2/17 at WPG, 8:00 p.m. ET

SATURDAY’S MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Select Bruins players will be available in the Bruins locker room hallway beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday before the Bruins/Predators matinee. Head Coach Claude Julien will be available at 11:50 a.m. in the Bruins locker room hallway. The Bruins Communications Staff will provide a transcript of the Julien availability on the team’s media website,

HORTY SET BACK: Bruins forward Nathan Horton suffered a concussion in the Bruins/Flyers game on January 22 and has been sidelined since. Horton had resumed skating on Sunday, February 5 but encountered a setback.

“He’s back to square one,” said Julien on Friday, February 10. “And we’re giving him some time here, and those symptoms, once he got on the ice, came back.”

Horton has 17 goals and 15 assists in 46 games this season.

CASINO NIGHT: The Boston Bruins Foundation will host the second "Boston Bruins Casino Night" on Sunday, February 12, from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at The State Room (60 State Street, Boston, MA 02109). Bruins fans will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to play a variety of casino games with their favorite Bruins players. To purchase tickets or for additional information, email or call 617-624-1981.

LUCIC, FERENCE AND KELLY GIVE BACK: The Bruins were out and about in the community on Thursday, as Milan Lucic kicked off the fifth annual PJ Drive with an appearance at the Target in Watertown and Andrew Ference and Chris Kelly visited the Perkins School for the Blind.

Teaming up with Cradles to Crayons and AT&T, Bruins fans, families, schools and corporations are encouraged to donate new, unused pajamas for underprivileged children statewide throughout the month of February as part of the PJ Drive.

“I think as athletes we are real fortunate to be living our dream," Lucic said on Thursday at Target. "I think it’s a big part and important part of our roles and to try to be good role models and that’s why the whole Bruins [team] and Bruins Foundation try to do their best in the community.”

Kelly and Ference were at the Perkins School for the Blind, where they participated in a game of “goalball” with a group of vision-impaired athletes as a part of the NHL’s Hockey is for Everyone program.

Blindfolded, the players tried to score on the other team's goal using a specially designed ball with bells that allowed the athletes to use their audio senses to judge the movement of the ball.

"It's a tough game, but it was a lot of fun," Kelly said on Thursday. "Obviously it's a new game for Andrew and I today, but I think we enjoyed it...Whenever we can get out and enjoy something they enjoy it's always neat."

111 AND COUNTING: Including the Bruins/Penguins game on Saturday, February 4 the Bruins have now sold out their last 111 home games at the TD Garden, including regular season and playoffs. This sellout streak began more than two years ago on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

1. The Bruins have scored six-or-more goals 11 times this season. Since the start of the 2008-09 season, the Bruins have allowed six-or-more goals just eight times. This includes Wednesday’s 6-0 loss to the Sabres.
2. The Nashville Predators are the only current NHL organization the Bruins have never made a trade with.

BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK (TOTW): CSNNE’s Joe Haggerty finally picks up his first Tweet of the Week of the 2011-12 season this week, snapping a 17-week drought. The winning tweet came before the Bruins/Sabres game on Wednesday, February 8:

ARNIEL NETS TWO: In the P-Bruins’ January 22nd contest against the Springfield Falcons, forward Jamie Arniel scored his third and fourth goals of the season and  his first since January 7th.
